I thought that the X7 is supposed to use the proximity sensor to send the screen black during a call because it is next to your face. My phone automatically puts the screen black when I make a call, even if the phone is on the desk or held out in space. Either way, it is very rare for me to be able to convince the phone to bring the screen display back up, ( to do things like enter little things like pin codes ). I flip it around, hold it up to the lights, put it against something, take it away, press every part of the screen.
Is there any way of setting the phone not to go black during a call?
Is there a special trick to getting a black screen to go away?
all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Check if the Proximity Sensor is covered by some foreign object or the Screen Protector film ?

Thanks for your response Farby
I do not have a screen protector on the phone.
I have googled it and can find no info that says where exactly the proximity sensor is. I can only assume it is in the bar at the top of the device above the work Nokia. There is no foreign objects in their, I have blown in there, polished it up, but the still insists on going black nearly all the time. I did manage once today to get the 'dialer' screen to come up, while trying to set up a pin for my phone message log in. The screen would try going black about every 3 seconds, with me franticly trying to press and cancel menu buttons to trick the phone into staying active (with pretty limited success.)
Perhaps a question that can help clarify things, if a number is dialled on an X7 and you don't put the phone near your face or anywhere that could activate a sensor, should the display normally go black or stay active ? ? ?

The Proximity Sensor becomes active during an Active Call.. If you dial a no. or receive a call and cover the Sensor before the call becomes active.. then the Screen should not go dark. Only when the call is connected and the sensor is covered, the screen should go dark..
Also check the settings for 'Time-out Period' on Pg.No. 29 of the User_Guide.

Thanks for your replies
As suggested, I have tried the trick of covering up the proximity sensor, and then making the call, and it still goes black once the call becomes active. Reactivating the screen to enter a number to delete a voice message, or to hang up the call, is somewhere between difficult and impossible. I am also starting to get the same problem with incoming calls. The X7 starts ringing on the desk, and sometimes no matter what you do the screen won't become active until the caller hangs up. It is seeming to me like there is not much choice other than to put it in for repair. At least I got acouple of good weeks out of the new phone.

Just following the discussion regarding black screen while phone calls...
exactly my problem with an 2 month old X7
because of transporting the X7 all the time in my trousers-pocket, looks like dust covered the proximity sensor. Just cleaned the sensor above the Nokia logo ( in the slit of the glass cover ) with a soft piece of cloth - it works again perfectly.
We´ll see if happens again in a few weeks and I know what to do

Hello everyone,
It seems like I have same problem. Firs I tought that it was Symbian Belle's problem beacause I started to have it after updating to belle but now I thing that it is hardware's problem. I think that it is beacause of dusts, but I have one question. My phone has something like plastic or some other thik in front of aproximity sensor. I tried to cean it beu nothing working so I'm wodering if I should remove that think and clean aproximity sensor. I saw that some of people facing problem like dusts entering the screen. So I wondering if it's possible that dusts can start entering the screen if I will remowe that plastic and clear apxoimiti sensor. Replies is grateful. ![]()
