Hi All
I received my 16gb X6 today and am happy(ish) with it, but I have a question.
On the specs on Nokias website it lists the X6 as having handwriting recognition and a mini QWERTY keyboard but I can't find either anywhere?
Cheers
Jon

Hi thanks for the reply, I can use the landscape qwerty keyboard but it is the mini qwerty which I'm hoping will be in portrait and the handwriting recognition I can't find anywhere.
Cheers

Unfortunately the specs are wrong. Most versions of the X6 do not have the mini qwerty or the hand writing recognition.
I think (but not able to confirm) that handwriting recognition is only available on asian language versions.
If you wish to complain to nokia about this please use the "contact us" link near the top of the page and contact nokia care.

Thanks psycomania I will indeed make a complaint as I am used to using a mini qwerty on previous phones and as such it was a deciding factor for me when looking for a new phone.
I have found an app called dayhand input but it is an unsigned app and more hassle than I want to get basic functionality on my phone, does anyone know if there is an easier alternative for a mini qwerty available?
Cheers

mini qwerty was not intended for the x6 because of the degree of difficulty to use it. Styluses dont work on the x6's capacitive screen., so the handwriting recognition was probably taken off because of this as well.

I don't think a well designed mini qwerty would be hard to use at all both my previous phone managed it and so do many others. And if it was not intednded for it the specifications on Nokias website should have never showed it.

I take it the place you've seen the incorrect information is the UK online nokia store?
http://shop.nokia.co.uk/nokia-uk/product.aspx?sku=
I noticed they have copied some of the specs from another model instead of using the official X6 specs that are correct:
http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/noki
If so direct your complaint to them and demand a refund on the grounds that they have mislead you.
The reason for the removal of the mini qwerty on the X6 is that it would not have worked properly on a capacitive screen due to mini qwerty being designed with a stylus (and resistive screens) in mind. Any redesign would have made it bigger, almost full size making it pointless as the phone already has full qwerty.
Unfortunately there is nothing more that we can do to help you here as there isn't an alternative mini qwerty for the X6.

Later versions of the X6 firmware removed the mini-qwerty keyboard.
Get swype from the Nokia Beta labs site. It has a couple of odd defects but is quite usable.

Install the application from here http://www.mobiletextinput.com/ This provides the option for portrait mini QWERTY

I hate it when people say portrait QWERTY wouldn't work right on the X6 because of it's capacitive screen. That's complete BS and apologizing for a non-existent problem. The reality is that portrait QWERTY works VERY well on the X6 and is exceptionally accurate. How do I know? I ran the Swype beta on an earlier firmware and had portrait QWERTY. Even when typing each letter individually, I never felt the need for a stylus. The simple answer is Nokia could have allowed it as an option, but for whatever reason, they didn't. Similar to the way they treat homescreen widgets, they intentionally cripple some phones.
