Not that I want to appear ungrateful, but I think most of those who have managed to upgrade to v2.0 will be a little disappointed.
It just isn't quite there yet, is it? Still not that responsive touch and elegant feel that I was hoping for. One minute all works well then the scrolling will judder or if I am loading photo viewer it indicate low memory (a bit better than just crashing as before!!) Does any other phone on the market have such trouble displaying photos?
There are some good things (I don't just want to moan) The music palyer is much better - especially at loading all songs which used to take abot 2 minutes but now almost instant.
What I want to know is when the next update will be out, I won't be going as potty over it this time but I think Nokia are obliged to get this right and we shouldn't have to wait months!!

Nothing has been announced about any major future updates so all you can do is wait and keep checking the various news sites for info.
You also have to remember that it takes time to gather feedback and investigate issues about the previous versions before they release the next major version.
As a side note did you reset after updated to v2.0? After resetting i've found mine to be very responsive without any crashes, freezes, slowdowns or scrolling judders. The responsiveness is spot for a resistive screen when compared to other phones.
Overall i'm very happy with v20 as it's made a big difference to the camera quality and the photo's app is much more usable now too. The extra speed is a bonus too.

Not so soon releasing Major update with in short span is impossible, only major emergency fix will be released. Not the major update. It take some time to find bugs and thier fixes. Finally it goes for testing before release.
Wait and watch...... Long way to go.
V 20 is the best one avilable of N97

I'm also experiencing a similar issue with the touch screen lagging or juddering, it will be working fine and then the screen will either not respond at all or respond in the wrong location. I have done a soft reset on the phone but this problem still remains. I have also turned off theme effects and third-party themes but with no improvement on this problem. I am now starting to wonder if it could be Nokia Messaging which I have installed and running on my N97. Generally the improvements in v2 make a big difference and it really feels like what the phone should have been upon release but this laggy response is driving me insane.
Perhaps I should try a hard reset, a format of the mass memory and a reinstall of the v2 fw (but should I have to put this much effort into a phone that I paid US $700 for).
I also find the photo album to be almost unusable when flicking between photos as it takes almost two seconds to load each photo.

It definitely sounds like you have some extra issues froschy. For example my photo browser is almost instant when flicking though images, I have over a 1,000 images stored on it.
I've read other posts where the current version of nokia messaging has caused issues. I had problems on v12 when they released the version that supported HTML. It was really slow and laggy compared to the previous version for me so I ditched it. Not tried it on v12 so i'm using the default mail client at the moment.

Psycho,
Yes, I have tried hard reset / soft reset. The hard rest made a slight difference but it appears that just after I have done a task, say reading a text, than go to say, contacts, the scrolling is juddery then becomes resonsive then juddery again. If I have not been doing anything with the phone for a while then go into something it seems to work fine. My guess is low ram but I thought V2.0 was speciffically to free up RAM.
Would reformatting the mass memory have any effect? I really don't want to as I have used 99% of it with all my music and it would take an age to reload.
I did read somewhere that after a hard reset you should not restore the settings in the back up just contacts and calender entries. What did you do?
By the way, I do not use and have not installed messaging.

I've only ever had to format my mass memory once (whilst on v10 or v11) after my computer crashed and corrupted parts of it. The phone was dead slow (taking 5-10 seconds to do simple tasks like opening the menu) when the memory was corrupt but formatting sorted it out.
I did the four finger salute reset, but the *#7370# one would have done the same job. I restored the settings, contacts, calendar and bookmarks backups using the phones own backup utility.
Generally i'm pretty strict on what I leave running in the background and what I allow to run at start up.

So I removed Nokia Messaging and first impressions are that this was causing my lagging problems, even the photo album seems to be a bit quicker. I've deleted all the photos and am currently reloading to see if this also helps.

Looks like the current version really doesn't like v20. Hopefully the next version will be fixed so that you can use it again.

I'm pretty well convinced now that it's a problem with Nokia Messaging and the N97 v2.0 firmware.
I'm so glad to have this resolved as it was driving me insane. I think I'll just use the in-built email client unless Nokia comes out with an update to Nokia Messaging that addresses this problem.
When the N97 is working like it should it's actually a very nice device. Fingers crossed for no more problems (well at least after I get my scratched lens replaced).

It needs to come soon, v20 is an anti climax. Apart from the kinetic scrolling and a bit more speed.
I did the hard reset and format mass memory.
Still locks up after answering a call by swipe.
Still hangs up on other events.
Loud speaker, Microphone is Fixed - but not perfect, people can hear you now, but not well, need to turn the mike up a bit more.
Total disaster with the Nokia CK-300 Carkit and Carmenu app.
Still drops calls.
After all that wait I am pulling the battery out 2-3 times a day.
I part of me likes this phone, but it is rubbish - I cannot help thinking it can be better.
I am not like some of the petrolheads on here downloading widgets, apps etc. I dont use the satnav, maps stuff. I take the odd picture, video but always delete and move to my pc. Any files, data etc I need to keep with me I put on the memory card. I have some music on it but hardly ever play it.
I do view PDF files - they are so slow, they could not be any slower.

Nokia made a big mistake by using low speed CPU, For such a huge memory phone.
They would have opted for Better CPU to run the power horse.
Nokia needs to do lot of tweaking of firmware, may be next version they will do it.

The ram isn't the issue, it the program itself in this case.
Whilst on v12 I found that the previous version of messaging ran very well on the N97 whilst the latest did not. Noticed similar behaviour on the 5800xm too.
