Re: n97 v2.0 Answering calls Bug and Nokia Tune Bug

Yup a real dissapointment when compared with other phones out there. Another hole in the wwater for Nokia and after many years of using Nokias I have promised myself this is the last piece of junk I will but from them. NOKIA it needs to work before you sell it! You can get aways with it for a whie but not forever.

Often after answering a phone call I need to reboot or at times remove the battery... very poor QA

Please fix fast!

i have sent various letters to the support team, all of which say to take it to a nokia care point to get it re-flashed. when they can test it for themselves on freshly flashed handsets at HQ the bugs ive posted, why cant they accept that flashing broken software onto the handset at a nokia care point is utterly pointless? what kind of company can not even explain faults in its software which they are clearly aware of? wasting everyones time travelling to nokia care points. according to nokia the software is bug free.

im appalled how utterly clueless nokia seem on their own products and software

they even deleted my entries in the support thread that explained the bug in detail asking them to test it, and it returned unanswered in the reply. i have now asked to have it sent to a manager.

I also hear the Nokia Tune at least twice a day! Nice piece of work, Nokia!

Did you get a reply from the management? I am also highly interested in an explanation for this!

Hi,

Yes the bug is there. While ver. 3 is on the way (I hope it still is) I tried to find the core of the problem. In my phone the default ring tone playes only when I have caller picture attached to contact and the phone is in key lock mode when the call comes in. To my understanding, finding the picture and resizing it in order to fit on the screen is too much for the phone. I started gradually reduce picture size (a function of N97) until I got the right tone. Appearantly the picture should have dimensions less than screen width (360), size less 20kB (as jpg).

Cheers!

Thank you very much for the hint to a workaround. I will directly try it (deleting all images).

I agree with Nokia. This is no bug but a feature!

Re: n97 v2.0 Answering calls Bug and Nokia Tune Bug

Dear All,

I have done all the tricks and workarounds, nothing will eliminate the Nokia default ringtone. It's a real BUG. Nokia should work hard to find the root cause and eliminate it. It's not a matter of memory only, sometimes I have 52 M free and sadly I hear it. Surprisingly, the email and message user-defind tone work perfectly, SO WHY? Also, if you installed the Fring application, when someone call the user-defiend tone for the active profile will work without any problems.

Re: n97 v2.0 Answering calls Bug and Nokia Tune Bug

Well,

Obviously I was too optimistic. The problem came back after some time... So I played around with my ring tone. It was a wms (or something) with size of 200 or more kb. I converted it into a mp3 with size of 80kb. Until now the bug vists me quite seldom so I am almost satisfied. It usually happens after you have used some memory demanding application or just having too many items open...

A reboot would clean the memory so once a day it is recommended as well.

Surprisingly, after doing the trick with ring tone file it works OK with any pictures you might want to attach to a contact or ring!

Cheers!

Re: n97 v2.0 Answering calls Bug and Nokia Tune Bug

So,

I had the same problem for ages when i 1st got my N97, after trying just about every suggestion i could find i managed to get it down to the 'rare' occurance. I contacted nokia support who told me i would have to send the phone in to them, clearly a waste of time, clearly they know the bug exists so i didn't bother.

If you are using the 'Nunlock' app, it causes the Nokia tune bug EVERY time. I have also noticed that turning off the rotation sensor in settings helps.

Anyway, after installing update 21.0.045 i thought the problem would surely have been fixed, but no. In fact, ever since that update my phone has been doing all sorts of weird things, sometimes the home screen will be re-arranged so that i can't use the phone at all and have to reboot! Pretty damn annoying.

I have just done a hard reset, re-installed ovi maps and my backed-up data, and was happy to find that all the bugs had gone away...............................all except for that damned putrid Nokia Tune!! I am using one of the other default aac tones that came on the phone and still no joy.

C'mon nokia, some of us have been devoted nokia customers for years! this bug is driving us mad! can you please, please address it with the next update? If it ain't fixed, this N97 is goin for a swim and i'm buyin an iphone, as reluctant as i am to do that at least the bloody thing can handle somethin as simple as a custom ringtone.
