Dear Nokia
Im a mobile telephone user, and i have been using phones since i was 16 and i am now 25. features like changing ringtones and taking calls have always been a feature in every single phone i have ever owned. All of which have been less exspensive than the n97.
I am now using my phone more than ever and expected to when choosing to opt for you flagship device as i was sure it would be able to handle such features as they have been around for as long as i can remember
to see that there has been no urgent hot patch to fix these bugs is making my handset un-fit for purporse. "wait till v2.0" i said to myself. how wrong was i?
Will my warrenty cover these bugs, i can no longer keep pulling out the battery after each and every phone call.
I am an IT consultant, you fixed the OVI store patch not closing packet connections but when will you focus on the simplest of tasks? As a major game player its stands to reason why you are loosing market share. Look at these simple mistakes, I urge all users to stand with me as to when we will see a hot fix.
To let this one slip is like casting a fishing rod into the sea without a hook - Please please please will you give us here a response worth £500 of our money?

its fine that the v12 backups arent compatible with your v2.0 restore
its fine that the c:\ memory is to small for its purpose and the lesser mini gets an upgrade
its fine that s60 v5 is seriously out of date now and is nothing but a old phone with 1 million bolt on features
but for heaven sake, make it take calls without crasiing and crush the nokia tune bug once and for all

Hear hear!
When I first experienced the hang bug after v2, I jokingly said that my next call would probably be with the infernal Nokia Tune. This didn't actually happen, but only a few calls later it actually happened. I couldn't believe my ears, and I my first desired action wasn't to answer the call, but to toss this useless piece of kinetic scrolling junk out of the window.

I hear you all, Its to the point now that if its not fixed once and for all shortly im going to get a android something or another handset that works, take my N97, have it cut in to small bits (not the battery), pack it in a box and send it to someone at nokia. with a few photos of the process it took to do just for laughs.
so much for a "flagship" model ![]()

i have sent various letters to the support team, all of which say to take it to a nokia care point to get it re-flashed. when they can test it for themselves on freshly flashed handsets at HQ the bugs ive posted, why cant they accept that flashing broken software onto the handset at a nokia care point is utterly pointless? what kind of company can not even explain faults in its software which they are clearly aware of? wasting everyones time travelling to nokia care points. according to nokia the software is bug free.
im appalled how utterly clueless nokia seem on their own products and software
they even deleted my entries in the support thread that explained the bug in detail asking them to test it, and it returned unanswered in the reply. i have now asked to have it sent to a manager.

Today I test myself the two bugs reported .....
I'm disappointing , unhappy that the big update V20 has this noise .
I hope Nokia Care build a small update to solve problems .....
Another bug is phone reset during a call , tested yesterday !!!!!!
No words .....

it seems a shame that your 1st post is one based around such a pathetic issue that still lingers after the 3rd or 4th major update for the handset, but ll give you kudos for testing these issues with us and assuring each other that its not us going mad, but nokia failing to admit failure

I had the problem of the phone freezing after taking phone calls ALL the time on v12, one day, I had to reboot the phone about four times - just because it could not handle phone calls. I was just simply dumbstruck - a phone that cannot handle phone calls?
Errr - sorry, make that a £500 phone that cannot handle phone calls
I upgraded about a week ago, had to wait two weeks after the launch of v20 so I could get it for my product code. Boy - did THAT make me happy. A phone that doesn't take phone calls, and then no FW upgrade . I then reverted back to my N95.
BUT, so far on v20, the phone seems to be ok. it hasn't crashed or frozen, but I'm expecting it to, which means I guess I just don't trust it 100% . I can't believe that v20 still hasn't sorted out the phone calls issues.

I to was not trusting of the v2.0 software after v12 ruined so many hours of my time. i was left damaged and unfaithful to the device. sure enough v2 did eventually hang during a call leaving me to pull out the battery, however it happens far less often but still happens, and every time it happens it hurts, because for £500 no other phone in the market is doing this.
there are at least 4 users in this post with the issue, i myself have reinstalled fw via nsu and formatted memory and performed hard resets twice over after v2. and still it happens, so its down to firmware. some times it happens on its own, sometimes it happens after a call comes in and i close the slide. either way, 4 users is £2000 worth of phone, v10,v11,v12,v2.0 updates, and still this bug is allowed to carry on with its user. imagine how many other users have this issue and what that totals to?
The nokia care point guy that i went to visit said he had the same issue and gave the phone to his father. Issues like this should come with a hotfix, i just simply cant recommend the n97 to friends or for buisness as it simply cant do the simplest of tasks
stay in touch, and report back here if it does happen and ill throw kudos your way for helping us understand how many product codes are affected

Just one simple question though - why does the GREEN button not simply answer all calls?
would be too easy for customers - nokia doesnt like it that way

About the nokia tune bug, I heard it when I was using the music player and I received a call from my wife. Obviously I have not setted it.

Dear All,
No one can deny the Nokia ring tone bug. They acknowledges such a bug in the FAQ, and stated some tips to avoid it. But I did all what they said and still hear it every now and then. Sometimes I have almost 50M free in the handset memory and sill hear it. I assure to you all it's bug. PLEASE PLEASE NOKIA FIX it in the next FW that expected to be in the middle of this month.

Hi,
Yes the bug is there. While ver. 3 is on the way (I hope it still is) I tried to find the core of the problem. In my phone the default ring tone playes only when I have caller picture attached to contact and the phone is in key lock mode when the call comes in. To my understanding, finding the picture and resizing it in order to fit on the screen is too much for the phone. I started gradually reduce picture size (a function of N97) until I got the right tone. Appearantly the picture should have dimensions less than screen width (360), size less 20kB (as jpg).
Cheers!
