I would like to use my Smartphone as a wlan hotspot.
I have seen that apps like Joikuspot and WalkingHotSpot exists.
Sadly with this apps it is only possible to connect per ad-hoc/peer-to-peer to something like a laptop.
But i think especially the possibility to use the Smartphone as a hotspot is great for using something like a sony psp or nintendo ds, to go online everywhere.
But for this, "infrastructure-mode" is mandatory.
For some reason symbian don't support "infrastructure-mode" until now.
Android Smartphones support this by now.
I wish that symbian will also support "infrastructure-mode" in the future.
Maybe even include the function of Joikuspot and WalkingHotSpot directly in symbian as a inbuilt feature.
I would definitely use this very often.
I hope i'm on the right adress with my suggestion.

I don't know of any Symbian app that does infrastructure mode and a friend with an N8 who was looking for one that did so recently gave up and bought a different phone which he dedicated to that mode. So I suspect there is nothing available.
I use Joikuspot and as you say it only supports ad-hoc, but if someone is able to suggest an app to help you I would be interested too.

>What functionality are you looking for exactly?<
I want to connect my Nintendo DS over Joikuspot.
But the Nintendo DS needs the "infrastructure-mode" which is not supported by Joikuspot.
It is not supported by Joikuspot because Symbian OS not have "infrastructure-mode" included at the moment.
I hope it will be included in the future.
To quote Joikuspot:
“E) Why doesn’t JoikuSpot work with Sony PSP or Nintendo DS?
Sony PSP and Nintendo DS require WLAN infrastructure mode. JoikuSpot does not support this yet.”
“D) Why does JoikuSpot appear as computer to computer (ad hoc) network?
Currently Symbian OS used in Nokia phones does not support WLAN infrastructure mode.”
