Initially i have FOTA settings but when i restore my factory settings,the settings are deleted now when i go to phone menu -> settings -> phone -> phone updates it displays select service provider but the list is empty. How can i update my firmware because my Nokia 5300 music player is not working.
I can’t do software update via PC because i have 256MB ram but my VGA shares memory and my ram displays 224 MB ram since the requirement is 256MB RAM.
Plzzzzzzzzzzzzz Help me.

FOTA updates don't work for any models, it's an unused service. Even if you had the settings it still wouldn't allow you to update.

You have three options.
1. Buy more ram for your computer.
2. Use someone else's computer to update'
3. Visit a nokia care point and ask them to update it.

No, the pc must be connected to the internet, preferably not using a dial-up connection.

My friend has a computer with all the software update requirements.But he has slow internet connection 64 KBPS
Then what is the full time required for nokia software updater. I will do full charge my battery will it is possible to update Plz.

64KBPS will be ok.

It's always safer to update with the charger connected.

hmmm...

I believe the phone software is around 50MB, which must be transferred during the update (so on the slow computer).

The pc software ("NSU") is also around 20-30MB, but can be downloaded with another computer and then transfered e.g. with usb stick

But downloading 50MB over 64kbps line, will last between 1,5 and 3 hours (assuming e.g. a transfer rate of 5KB/s, you get 10000 seconds = 2hours 46 minutes)

Theoretically possible, unless NSU is cutting the line or anything during slow downloads. Also, if the transfer is interrupted, it will not be continued from the cut-off point, but rather restarted.

Bottom line. I would not recommend this.
