Using C3-01 as a modem to update its own firmware?

Phone- Nokia C3-01, v6.00
PC- Win 7 ultimate
connection- via Usb cable, max data download speed is 20 kbps
On connecting my phone to Nokia ovi suite it shows that an update is available. I want to know whether i can update my c3-01 firmware while it is being used as modem. I know that ovi suite will first download the firmware & then install it. So is the network connection required even when installing the firmware?
