The truth about the Nokia 6110 Navigator support-end

[ Edited ]
Nokia released the 6110 Navigator 10 months ago. It was released with firmware 3.51. A few weeks later, it got a firmwareupdate to version 3.58 (microsdhc support). Then, nothing happend for months. Before the launch of Nokia 6110 Navigator, 5 months before actually, the Nokia N95 was released, the first phone with GPS inbuild.
The Nokia 6110 Navigator was however the first phone, that came with inbuild navigation software (an oem-version of route66mobile8=nokia navigator). This was to get first experiences in mobile-phone gps-navigation and the related software.

Nokia then began to release Nokia maps (first version was obviously very similar to route66mobile8, even nokia maps 2.0 is still nearer to route66mobile8, than to any other software of their competitors.

Then route66mobile8 sold a map called "Western Europe with nordics", that was sold to nokia 6110 navigator-users, but the old firmware 3.58 had a bug ("not enough memory"), and nokia had no choice than to release a new firmware 4.22, to fix this, as this would have got the baddest publicity ever for nokia, sell something, that does work even less than the current product. this bugfix was released 4 month after the map appeared for the first time in route66-shop (route66 had already warned nokia that there was a problem and that they should release a new firmware with the updated nokia66mobile8 software, but nokia was rather slow (4months to react)).

since that, no more updates. route66 has again released new software, but no wonder, nokia didnt update anything yet. there is an unofficial firmware 5.11, that you can get a several nokia service centers, but it is really minority-fix, the battery-loading-state-bug got fixed. also not yet available over nokia software updater.
the better price/product/navigation on route66mobile8 is making huge problems to the overprized nokia maps 2.0, therefore nokia seemms not to be willing to support a phone, so the cstomers are still forced to switch to another phone with maybe nokia maps. but i am sure, no nokia 6110 navigator-user will get a new nokia-phone, given the way nokia "supports" their clients.

last official firmware was at january 2008, 6 months after the release of the phone.
the 6 months older nokia n95-1 is now at firmware 30.xx with tons of features added. nokia 6110 navigator is at 4.22 or if i am really gentle, 5.11. none of the features, like for example the simple flash lite 3.0-support, is added to the phone, nor the new route66mobile8 updates.

many phonecalls and emails to nokia lead to nothing, support is over. they claim to still support it and that they still work on new software, but dont they release it? or what do you mean by support? by putting the phone on the homepage as one of their gps-smartphones, and offering a minimum of compatible software?

i remember trucks driving around, with big nokia 6110navigator-picture on their back, publicity,"find your way". i sometimes think, did nokia mean: "find your way to get updates, because we will not release any, despite the known bugs"?

nokia: this is not support what you are doing here, this is letting customers down.
a very disappointed customer, due to this ridiculous "customer-support", that does not fit the minimum-requirements in europe (and other countries) to be called "support".

Well said laxlex.

I wish Nokia was ruled by some smart managers to see that the new world order rule is "consumerism". It means being customer-centric since the competition is higher and gets new players in the market.

Consumers are more and more vigorously looking for value for their money. Many big brands making the mistake of disregarding customer focus Rest In Peace now. Remember Alta Vista? Remember Psion? Remember Ericsson?

I will never ever buy another Nokia phone after 15 years of addiction for the terrible rip-off minded aprroach Nokia has. I will also not allow any of my immediate or larger family members and friends to buy one to prove that "Word By Mouth" marketing can hurt! There goes at least 50 customers from my end.

And Nokia, please worry. Because people are smart enough not to be fooled to pay twice much for a big, ugly machine with half the features and double the cost.

You will wake up one day but it will be too late and it won't be long before your company is called Sanhung-Nokia :smileyhappy:

Re: The truth about the Nokia 6110 Navigator support-end

I guess so, you are right too. Nokia is going the wrong way. They also missed the right moment to sdd touchscreen supprt, apple, samsung, htc, sony-ericsson, blackberry, and so on, have all got touchscreenphones now. really its time for a change at nokia. they totally focus on their old n95 (or the really similar n96), no real innovation anymore, and customer-support seems to be gone (if there ever was one, nokia6110navigator-users did never get in contact with this support!). but guess what? same problem now with nokia 6210 navigator and 6220 classic. the only series that get supported seem to be the Nxx series, like N95, N82...
as nokia nowadays also producs a lot in china, it really seems logical, that soon a chinese investor will simply buy nokia (lets call it "sanhung" :smileyhappy:) and nokia will get dramatic changes.

Hi,'Hi,

What i would suggest, buy a 2 or 4 Gb memory card and transfer the data in your old memory card to the new one.

If i am not mistaken, Nokia.com/support, you can search under the 6110 navigator, how to transfer to memory card...etc FAQ.

This would solve the issue i belive.

Re: The truth about the Nokia 6110 Navigator support-end

I've had it with Nokia too. For a whole year now I have been stuffing around with their map loading software left to try and sort out their supposed simple instructions. Unreliable bluetooth and no compatibility with Telstra Next G. Honestly it was a mistake buying the 6110 Navigator. There are so many bugs it's simply not funny.
