The could-be-reason behind late firware update to the n97 (2.1)

Hi. I'll go straight to the point. Nokia releases firmware updates. These are 1st received by unbranded phones. Then nokia sends the firmware to various operators which tweak the software. Then it is sent back to nokia for testing. If apprroved, it is uploaded to servers for download via the NSU. Now software 2.0 was given to the operators in a similar fashion. Many operators tweaked it and sent it back to nokia. Nokia approved them and uploaded them. Some operators didn't . So nokia is still waiting for them. Now nokia would be ready with n97 v2.1 but it cant release it as there is a pending update with the operators..(v2.0).. unless the operator tweaks it and sends it back to nokia nothing can be done. Also this might be the reason for the topic started with the n97 and the 3 network. There must have been a bug while 'tweaking' of the software. So it could be that nokia might not be at fault for late firmware updates.. It might be the operators... THIS WAS JUST A THOUGHT. I DONOT SAY THAT THIS IS FACT AND IS HAPPENING. It is just a HYPOTHESIS... It might be true it might be false. (partially too)... Thanks...

I feel Nokia should be able to release v21 without waiting for operators to approve the v20 and push those out first. In the past, some operators were known to skip some software versions.

I rckn that they had an issue in the firmware instead of the operators having an issue. Or they are taking a holiday :smileyhappy:

Nokia is really eccentric, its time for a big change

Some operators not returning their modified firmware for distribution will not stop Nokia from releasing the unbranded firmware or the branded firmware from operators who did return it.

Re: The could-be-reason behind late firware update to the n97 (2.1)

I'm really fed up with this behavior.Nothing ever gets announced by Nokia, we have absolutely no info on new firmware updates, the device doesn't work as it's supposed to more than 6 months after release. It's like having a brick which occasionally turns to a smartphone, and noone is doing anything about it at Nokia, or at least noone's in the mood to answer something that shouldn't be even asked. This is the last time I bought nokia smartphone, too much money for something I could get in a phone 5X cheaper.Deeply disappointed...and what's worse, you can't even sell this C*ap nower days.

Re: The could-be-reason behind late firware update to the n97 (2.1)

Hallo,

I'm wonder if someone from Nokia is reading this what we are talking about?

It is so hard simply answer, when and why so late is v 2.1?

Sometimes i'm thinking that they from Nokia are smiling and only counting money from no useful phones.

Bye

Re: The could-be-reason behind late firware update to the n97 (2.1)

The N97 is reasonably stable with v20 and v21 will fix any additional firmware bugs. Nokia will release v21 when it is ready and there is server space. At the moment Nokias software teams are working on the new firmware for phones to be released this summer (mainly new user interfaces and improved ease of use), and debugging the recently released N900 and x series. So, N97 v20 bugs and any bugs found in the v21 update will take longer to fix.

Whether operators finalize the v21 or not does not have any effect on whether v21 is released by nokia for unbranded N97's. The operator will decide whether to update to v21 for a branded phone or wait for the next major update (v30) to be released.

not that version you have but my n97 RM-507 version has the latest firmware 2.0 the truth better but still has many bugs that make it unstable and mostly do not consider that these errors have a phone so expensive

Nokia needs to work on this and think because I can not stop to have a solution.

Re: The could-be-reason behind late firware update to the n97 (2.1)

This is simply a day light robbery from Nokia. This is the worst Phone Nokia has ever made coupled with the fact that they lied about almost everything they said the phone can do. I have made it a daily duty to reboot my Phone at least 3 times just to get by. This is really a SHAME and it's like nobody at Nokia willing to stepup to the plate and address this issues. I implore every N97 owner to sign the petition to Nokia and i think the Phone company should be Blacklisted for the fraudulent act.

sorry but i don't think too much can be done for current phones but at least we can try and influence future handsets. have a look at symbian ideas and add your support there (a place where the networks and the symbian developers actually read)

I couldn't help noticing you say "Nokia will release v21 when it is ready and there is service space."
Is server space an issue at all? If Nokia needs more server space, I think anyone of us can easily afford to give some. :smileyhappy: 1TB of disk is only a little over $100 in Singapore.
