Sugestion for new firmwire in N73

I bought N73 week ago. Eariel I had E50. It have greate function: when you have new SMS, e-mail, mised call samll LED informs you about that. In some new model it is also. In n73 it is LED too but in turn on when screen off and informs you that phone is ON. Programers from Nokia, please put in N73 new option like in e50.

The N73 has been available for 2 years. If they were going to add that feature (if it was even possible) they would have done it by now.

The feature has been added to the N73's replacement model, the N78.

Maybe it's time you moved on to a newer model?

Actually, that does make sense.

The blue LED flashes for a brief instant periodically to let you know the phone is in sleep mode. If it's received a message that you've not yet read, it would make sense to take advantage of the LED already there and make it flash differently to show that there are unread messages. Good idea.

Re: Sugestion for new firmwire in N73

It does make sense but don't you think they would have done it by now if they could?

The LED was part of the N73's design because it was one of the first models to totally blank it's screen in sleep mode.

You're probably right. It's a shame they didn't think of that right from the word "go". It would be a far more discrete way of letting you know you have unread messages than Motorola's "I'm gonna bleep every 5 minutes until you read them".

Re: Sugestion for new firmwire in N73

It would and that's why the feature has been appearing on more models. Most of the new FP2 models do it and some of the recent FP1 models do too (E66 and possibly E71).

A few series 40's have the feature too (7500 springs to mind).

The LED on the N73 is most likely not controllable by software and is triggered by the hardware going into the sleep state.

That's a reasonable explanation.

In 6300 screen totaly off too, but it has LEDs informs you like in e50. This LED in n73 is irritating. If they colundn't change it to be like in e50, they sholud give possibility to off it like in Samsung. When I put phone front of me and I'm watching TV it is irritating when it bliping

You could always put it face downwards...

I had exactly the same problem with my N73, but not while watching TV, but by trying to fall asleep. And I did exactly what is mentioned above - put it face downwards...even though I always felt I was scratching the display...

But beczkas maybe you should really follow psychomanias advice and move on to a newer model... how about the N78! :smileyhappy:

There is a ridge around the screen and the joystick sticks out from the keypad a few millimetres too. So, unless there's something under the phone, its screen won't even be in contact with anything.

As for upgrading to the N78, that's a nice idea, but are you going to buy it for him? :smileyhappy:

Re: Sugestion for new firmwire in N73

No actually I´m not :smileywink:...but since the N78 is not a very expensive model, if you get it with a contract you could be well under 100€, which isn´t expensive for a brand new phone, is it? :smileyhappy:

maybe the people from this forum are reading different post about N78 than what I have been reading since N78 was released but my impression of N78 is not something I would recommend to anybody, I would encourage anyone considering N78 to read what people have posted throughout this entire forum, the problems too many to list here but they are not hard to find
N73 has been finely tuned by now in terms of reliability and stability, I am curious how many people would change or add a cell phone for a single feature of a flashing LED notification on a cell phone that displays 2 different times depending what menu the user is viewing

Re: Sugestion for new firmwire in N73

Many of the N78's problems have been fixed by the v12 firmware. The unresponsive soft keys was it's major flaw, but not any more.

With menu transitions on it's slower than FP1 with them off it's quicker.

The FM transmitter issue is because of many countries laws.

I have to say that it's keypad is uncomfortable when using it for any length of time. It has to be the worst i've used in years but that's just my personal opinion.

Which major problems were you thinking off likeitlikethat?

I´ve said in other posts and I have no problem in repeating it: For me the keys work good and I´ve had no problem with any kind of dailing or typing. But this is just a personal opinion, people hold phones differently and therefore use the keypad differently. The best way is to try for yourself at a local store.

Besides that, I´m really interested to hear which other problems have been reported with the N78...

I think you'll find that this is the case for most candybar phones. The keys are harder to the touch so that they don't get pressed all the time in your pocket, handbag (well, I hope you personally don't have a handbag but you know what I mean) or whatever. The keys on a slide phone or clamshell are protected when you're not actually using the phone.

That's one of the things I first noticed when trying your N82 and when I got the N73. The keys on my N95 are far softer and more comfortable than on either of those models. Ditto for the 6280 (another slider).

Re: Sugestion for new firmwire in N73

I have a manbag :smileywink:

The N82's keypad can also be a bit tiring but the keys are spaced much better than the N78's. The best keypad i've ever used on a candybar was on the 6233.

One thing that's been tempting me towards a slider is the great reviews about the E66's keypad.

But I coludn't chose N78. http://www.orange.pl/klienci_biz/telefony?redir=0 I colud chose one of those phones. As you can see I'm from Poland and we doesn't have so many phone to chose. For example: you had iPhone 3g on 11 July and we are going to hava it in September/October. It's sad

Are there no other operators in Poland who provide the N78?

No operator sell N78 in Poland. I don't know why because it costs the same like N95 (on nokia.pl shop)and we can buy N95
