Hi all,
I wanted to share the latest Nokia statement about Symbian support with you as well.
‘Nokia will provide software support for Symbian until at least 2016. In the short term that means delivering a series of updates, starting with Symbian Anna and followed by further future updates, including a second update in 2H 2011. These will bring exciting new features to the Symbian user experience including a complete visual refresh and improvements in the browser and text input. Beyond that Nokia’s commitment means maintenance of the software alongside customer care and other services so that anyone buying a Symbian-based Nokia smartphone can be confident they will be supported for the lifecycle of the product. We predict that will mean providing software support until at least 2016.’
BR,
yvonne

Yes the link to the Elop interview is here:
But, taking the other information, that has been released, into consideration all it means is that the consulting company which is taking over Symbian software services will offer bug fixes and support the Ovi store and services until 2016. A 5 year contract with Nokia for Ovi and Symbian software support.
Now, what of advancing Symbian with releases such as Anna?, I think, if we ever do see futher major updates to Symbian they will be the last ending by next year as the first WP7 phones are released.
I suppose it will be like MS still supporting XP with bug fix and security updates even though they now have all there focus on Windows 7.
