Problem in 5800 XM

ok i'm new here. sorry if posted in wrong section. But i wanted to ask u expert guyz a problem that was encountered by me. I've updated my 5800XM from 11.0 version to 30.0 version a couple of days ago. The update was shown successfull. After the update the phone was turned off by itself. Since then it is not starting but it only vibrates when powered on for sometime and then remains turned off. I've searched the forum for similar problem and found all 'not working' solutions. 1.I've tried to power on after removing memory card. 2.I've tried to hard reset using Green+Red+Camera button while holding the power button. 3.The last option is to go to Nokia Care. I've gone there and they had said to make it operable after a period of 15 days. Now,even if they resolve the problem, shall I not update my phone in the future. My phone dealer even said that updating the software myself will end the warranty. I liked the phone very much but such problem is leastly expected by a customer.

Re: Problem in 5800 XM

Your phone dealer obviously doesn't know what he's on about. Updating the phone using the tools supplied to you IN THE BOX WITH IT (Nokia Software Updater) will most certainly not void the warranty.

As for your current problem, have you looked at psychomania's "recovering from a failed update" thread in the pool of knowledge?

Re: Problem in 5800 XM

I have exactly the same problem with my Nokia 5800 XM after trying to update the firmware yesterday - except that I have yet to go to the shop with it. T-Mobile recommend going to their customer care shop rather than a Nokia Care Centre?

I tried Psychomania's suggestions in the thread but nothing works. My PC only recognises the phone as a USB flash drive so neither PC Suite or the Software Updater register it as a device so my backups and everything else I did are useless.

The phone won't turn on, it vibrates and flashes as described in the post above. I only updated the firmware because it was recommended in the PC Suite software so I am very annoyed about this.

If anyone has any other suggestions on how to recover it without using the Updater or over-the-air methods it would be much appreciated. My instinct is that if I were able to download a version of the firmware onto my PC I could transfer it to my phone when it recognises it as a Flash Drive. If I could then reinstall the firmware on the phone everything would be ok.

But unless anyone knows how to get the firmware files downloaded without using the updater then I'm stuck with a dead phone on contract for another six months - unless the shop can sort it. :smileysad:

Thanks in advance.

Re: Problem in 5800 XM

Thanx 4 your reply. I was doing as per the post you have suggested. It said about hard reset, that i've already tried. Then it says to connect the phone and restart NSU. I've done so but neither the Ovi suite nor the NSU are detecting the phone in the switched off state. Lastly it suggested to go to Nokia Care to which i'm already asking should i go to Nokia Care every time when i update my phone in future?? Although my phone is under warranty period so they will repair it for free this time, but do i've to pay for my updates when the warranty period is over?? Kidly reply.

Re: Problem in 5800 XM

Correct. It won't cost you anything to have the phone updated or to rectify a problem that is a direct consequence of using Nokia's provided software as long as the phone is within the warranty period.

Once outside the warranty period, you might have to pay for updates.

This said, 99% of the time, when this kind of thuing happens it's because of the way the computer is set up and not at all a problem with the phone. Usually because the computer can't detect and set up the required drivers the first time NSU is used, and this is more often than not because an antivirus is getting in the way or because too many other applications are running at the same time.

-backup your data " choose all choices except files from phone memory"

-remove your memory card

-do a hard reset

-update your phone

that's it ... (( if you faced any problems after update and inserting memory card ... move your personal data to pc and format your memory card then move them back :smileyhappy: ))

Re: Problem in 5800 XM

Had the same issue when v31 was installed. I went to the Nokia care, they resetted my phone, and all data was gone. :smileysad:

Few days later, same thing happened. Stuck on startup screen again.

Major problem is you can''t make a backup.

First of all, remove your mem card, and then try to start up normally. It should work, cause a bug with the card is mostly causing the startup problems.

If that worked, backup everything, and then upgrade to v4 software.

It helped for me!

Re: Problem in 5800 XM

Thanx everybody.

Now I think that the problem was that i hadn't made a hard reset before update.

Anyway I've given the phone to nokia care.
