@jaredmorgs and adrianhughes.
This update does not appear to be available via fota. I have not yet updated my N8 but have just updated my X6 16GB to v31.0.004 by ovi suite. The update went smoothly and without problems. Also, adrian I did not loose any settings, programs, apps etc. Suggest you give Ovi a go. I will be updating my N8 tomorrow by Ovi.
By the way I am in Adelaide, Australia. My product code 059D402

Hi all,
I'm on winter holidays from tonight for a week. We've arranged that you nevertheless get the release availability excel files on a regular basis.
And one more info for people on a Sim-locked Australian variant. I just got the info that we are in touch with all Australian operators (Vodafone, Optus, Telstra & Hutchison) and they are aware of the urgency. So we are working all hand in hand to get the software approved and out to you as fast as possible.
BR,
yvonne

Thanks Bazyeo yeh i figured that since it is prompting to update via PC then it won't be available FOTA. I'm in the process of updating now and glad to hear that all the information and settings and multimedia were preserved. Puts my mind at ease
. Is yours a country variant or a branded handset do u know?
If you found this answer helpful, please click the green star to your left. Thanking you!

Just updated 059D597 with NSU on my wifes pc as mine kept coming up with errors after it downloaded it and went to install, usb problems the error code said but unable to fault them otherwise. First thing i noticed is the screen saver, i have it on music player and it now has colors with the time and date that change ever minute, yet to go through the rest of the phone, will do now.

Some last comments as I've just managed to catch up on the posts.
And before I'm off on holidays, a big thanks to all the people who have given positive feedback on our efforts here. On Nokia side there are a lot of people working on this & it's great for them to read some positive comments as well...

@skyee
Hi ,
Good to give a concise answer . I suppose that you are not in position to organise all these but:
1. Having the OTA and the PC packages on different server is something that does not concern the user. The client just wants to get his job done. It should be better to either clarify at the webpage or just give availability when both packages are there.
2. I had supposed that the xls file is the PC package. Maybe I am wrong. However, the firmware update page say no PC package. The xls file says "published" . However, no matter how I try to update I can't do it. That is , PC suite does not find an update (even though 2 days ago it would but I deffered the job for later). *#0000# say no updates , even though xls says published. SW-update on the phone says "firmware available : use pc suite" .
Now I think, somethin is wrong here. Maybe the NOKIA team could look into this (059D1K6)?
Anyway, I am not in a hurry. I will survive without my firmware dose for a few days
have a nice vacation .

I am disappointed that someone says this forum is the place for peer-tp-peer discussion (by peer you mean Nokia users/customers?), but not a place for contacting the Nokia.
It's my fault that I thought I may get Nokia responses here.
I should thanks for skyee for starting this thread and keep update as a VOLUNTEER-basis. (I really mean I thanks, especially if this is not her job duty and what she paid for. So she has been working here as OT, as an extra service for us.)
So why doesn't Nokia has someone responsible to take care the customers here?
I understand Nokia has its local Nokia Care in all countries/cities.
BUT I must say the Nokia Hong Kong Care staff are NOT HELPFUL. If you can read Chinese you could take a look on the Nokia Hong Kong Facebook Fans Page. For most enquiries they don't reply in text directly at the page. Instead they waste time on Facebook PM, phone calling, and all they can tell is they don't have the information. I probally know more of Nokia than they do! (except that I know nothing about the Nokia Hong Kong. I only know they suggest some game/apps every few days and I believe they spend a lots of marketing money on the artists in Hong Kong, which I don't care for.)
If I have enquiries or complaints, I know I should contact the local Nokia Care. Now I want to complaint the Nokia Hong Kong Care, who should I contact?!
I am going to look up Stephen Elop's contact, email, twitter or whatever. I don't think he will read or reply me. But at least I should try everything I can do to make Nokia aware Symbian users are still alive at the moment.

My N8's product key is 059D9D9, from Romania, but it's locked on Vodafone RO.
My question is: if I unlock my phone via the unlock code provided by Vodafone RO, then can I update my device, or it's just a waste of 50euros ?
Thank you

All these except 059D614(Telenor SE Darkgrey), are Telia Sonera Sweden is there any special reason for these beeing in creation for 2 weeks, like Telia not approving the firmware or is it approved and on its way?
Would love a reply on this, but so do everyone else asking about firmwares in here ![]()

@adrianhughes
My N8 is a green generic, unbranded, country variant according to the excel spreadsheet. This has also been confirmed by the Nokia Australia call centre. My X6 16GB is also generic unbranded. I am not on a contract with a telco and wont be anymore. I buy my phones outright and insist on generic unbranded units. I never buy from Optus World or Yes Optus shops as they have told me all their phones although they are unlocked, they are Optus branded phones. Same goes for 3 I believe. I buy my phones from Telechoice or Allphones or any other store that can sell me a generic phone.

@justin_ckt
Try calling the Nokia Australia support line (located in the Phillipines not Australia ) for help or support. Apart from the fact they do not speak very good english and are hard to understand the are completely useless and unhelpful. In fact I call it the Nokia Australia no support line. As I live in Australia I expect the call centre to be in Australia not the Phillipines. I believe this was done for cost cutting purposes at the expense of Australian jobs. Well if Nokia want to do that then why should Australians buy Nokia phones. Surely it is a two way street. What goes around comes around. Come on Mr Elop have a good look at this.

@serik_george
If a phone is a branded phone or locked to a network that network operator has to approve of the update before Nokia can release it.

Thank you for your reply :-D
I know this is the case. But for a locked device, does the Operator have to "approve" a certain update, or the Operator has no role in this?
That was my question :-)
If the Product Code is a carrier variant then the carrier has to approve the new FW release before you can upgrade. All updates are based on the FW version of your handset. It does not matter who you use as a carrier. Ulocking your handset will have no effect on the upgrade process. You will have to wait for Vodafone RO to approve and release the new FW for Product Code 059D9D9
I have a Vodafone AUS branded handsest that I unlocked from Vodafone and I now use a Three sim and Three is my carrier. I must wait for Vodafone AUS to release the FW update.
