Unfortunately, money makes the world go around, and so it goes people always think they can become rich easily. Everyone thinks they 'deserve to be rich' and dont want to miss out on an 'opportunity'. Unfortunately these people run around with blinkers on and their brains switched off.
There are usually 2 things that happen to people that repsond to these kinds of scams. Firstly their whole identity is stolen and are finanacially ruined, and secondly they themselves get wrapped up in the scam by becoming a 'mule' for these crooks, with even more promises of getting 'free' money, by helping these people move money thru their bank accounts. The worst part of the whole thing is that the people who have been ripped off, become 'mules' for the crooks, are totally unaware that they themselves are now on the wrong of side of the law, they can and will be charged for these illegal activities.
These kinds of scams are being run constantly, the only difference between all of them is the name they use for the organisation they choose to pretend to represent. In most case they are looking for bank customers, but they can and do choose any organisation big and small, from phone companies, car makers, bank, to governrments.
The easiest way to protect yourself, is to never respond to anything like this, no matter how real or authentic you think it is. IF you receive something and your firmly believe it to be real, then pick up you local phone book, and ring the company using only the phone number in the phone book, DO NOT use the links in email, DO NOT use the phone number for the email.
PS. some of these emails contain trojan/viruses as well, so make sure you do a full anti virus scan on whatever it was that received the email (phone,PC etc)
