Nokia N95 v31.0.017 Bugs- Demanding a new firmware fixes

Hello guys, I have recently upgrade my firmware from a nice v30 to v31 with hope of improvement in many things. But I end up very regretful after. My phone is no longer do what V30 allowed me to do.

For example:

Taking Picture using the standard built in Software within the OS. My phone refused to start the Camera Application. Also refused to enable accelerometer for "Rotate Screen" mode. When ever i enabled it, a few seconds later my phone get on a plane of forever reseting every time it started up, it will reset itself again and again. I tried to re-install the firmware many times, 5times in total, but nothing good happening from it.

The Camera is not at fault here, I tested it with the "Barcode Scanner" software and it work fine. Also tested the camera with the PhotoRite and it also works. I am very disappointed in NOKIA, I've using nokia for the last 5years and this is the worst things that I've never ever met.

If anyone can tell me what to do from here would be nice. I just got my phone back from the Service Centre today. And update today, and very upset today..

is there a way to roll back tot the original firmware?

Likewise.  Upgraded from a much older v14 to v31.  Restored my PC Suite backups and now the OS based Camera will not start at all.

Seems like this is a common issue, so it would be nice if someone/nokia would at least eplain the reason - something messed up in the data backup/restore, or the firmware has a bug, or we need to format or something.

I considered a factory reset, but needs my lock code and cannot locate that at the moment.  Don't want to guess and lock myself out!

Re: Nokia N95 v31.0.017 Bugs- Demanding a new firmware fixes

Hi ,

I have few similar issues. My phone nokia n95 came pre-loaded with V30 version of the firmware .When i saw that the updates for V31.0.017 was available i thought it would improve my device performance as Nokia is a trusted brand  But Nokia tottaly has lost my trust .

The phone now is much slower than it was previously .It hangs at times .When trying to open the contacts it sometimes displays blank.Similar is the case when i try to open the Display settings or personalizations .The phone must be restarted twice or thrice before it can work fine .

The battery gets discharged quite fast now though i have limited usage of the phone only .I just bought the new phone N95 in Feb 2009 and now it is a pity that i am struggling with it .

Nokia has totally disappointed me .

I contacted their Nokia care service centre and they  say that they require Indian rupees Rs7500 / - just to check the device and see whether they can do anything about it .Already i have spent a lot just to purchase this phone and now they want more just to check the phone .

I tried to reinstall the firmware one more time but there is no use.The system is performming too slow and hangs .

Nokia it is a shame on your part to release an untested bug version of the nokia N95 firmware  V31 .

Re: Nokia N95 v31.0.017 Bugs- Demanding a new firmware fixes

Hi ,

The factory reset code is 12345 but there is no use my friend.I have tried it already. The problem is with the V31 firmware .Unless nokia fixes the bugs with V31 and releases the new update nothing much could be changed .

I am eagerly waiting for the update and hope that nokia truly cares for its customers .

I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

V31 has been around for about a year now and it includes other bugs like the well-known "clock skips forward" bug previously found in FP2 devices. If Nokia was going to fix that problem they would have done so by now.

Kindly make the bug fixes and then only make the update available.

If Nokia is not planning for an updated firmware version soon enough it would still be better if Nokia could provide the stable V30.0.015 firmware version with a new latest version number so that the device could be updated to the stable firmware version immediately thus resolving customer problems  . Kindly consider this suggestion Nokia officials.

Its a shame.  I got a Google G1 and came back to the N95.  Looks like I am back to the G1.  I don't buy Nokia Apps because I can see I will change my phone.  At least provide a way to roll-back - that's fundamental.

Re: Nokia N95 v31.0.017 Bugs- Demanding a new firmware fixes

I have a question.I have the N95-2 version, the North American one, and I can`t update. I thought the v30 update should be available for both N95-1 and N95-2, but through NSU it says I cannot update... why ? and what gives with this stupid editor, i hit enter and it sends the whole text down instead of going to a new line downwards...

The N95-2 is not the North American variant. It's the global N95 8GB. You probably have the N95-3.

Firmware versions for the NAM variant phones are not the same as for the global variants because the hardware is usually not the same. NAM phones operate on different frequencies.

Also, there's the issue of how you got the phone. If you got it SIM-free then you should contact Nokia USA and ask them why they haven't released updates. If you got yours through a mobile network operator then updates are the responsibility of that operator.

As for the odd behaviour of the text editor, it's probably because of an incompatibility with Opera (I'm assuming that's the browser you're using). The "cure" is to use the HTML editor. Simply click on the "Edit as HTML" button.

Re: Nokia N95 v31.0.017 Bugs- Demanding a new firmware fixes

Indeed, I am using opera, but for now, i`ll settle for it. Well, I dont quite remember the version, but it`s definitely the NAM version, I bought it last year unlocked from a US site, tigerdirect, and I am fairly certain it`s the US version since I had 3g available only there. Well, I dont know what to say. I saw that Nokia US had the same v.30 update available somewhere, or I might be mistaken. Also, what I dont understand, I should be able to reinstal the firmware I have now, not just update, like a clean instal, but I cant even do that. I did a clean reinstal of the latest firmware on an E71 but on my N95 I cant :smileysad:
