There is another bug I have found. When turn off the cell; while show the nokia logo, there are also show some another application’s display like, logs, image mode etc randomly then it goes to off.

Anybody has noticed yet?

I have contacted BBC Watchdog and I have gave them loads of details and I have gave them this thread link so they can see that I am not the only one with a really buggy firmware and yet still no confirmation from Nokia about new update nor even the disconnection of v20 firmware from NSU/FOTA. It just shows that Nokia do not pay attention to customers even if you make them aware of it. They rather let their customers suffer. No matter how many times you email them they dont really give a ****.

I advise all N86 8MP users to contact BBC Watchdog here in the UK. The more complaints and problems the better evidence builds up and Nokia get shamed!

Well, u cant compare the N73 with N86 for one reason. Both are on diff s60 platforms. N73 was the 1st league of phones based o s60 ver.3, however N86 is based on s60 ver.3.2 & thats why we call it as FP2 (Feature Pack 2)

 

The bug which u have mentioned regarding the cell info display is the drawback with every FP2 phone. I use N79 petrol black in India in addition to N86 Indigo and even that cell is also having the same issue as it is also based on the FP2. U will also see this problem with Nokia N85 as its also based on the FP2. In short all FP2 phones have this cell info issue.

One more thing CAPS is not allowed here. Even if u scream for 24by7; no one is going to help u from Nokia as this forum is for users to solve issues of diff users & not an official or even unofficial platform to inform Nokia.

If u r developer & interseted to be part of the development team, pls joing official Nokia Forum.

 Basically, Nokia says a lot for the ver 11. But I personnaly had not found any major performance upgrate or boost compare to ver 10. But yes the N86 was more stable compare to ver 10. U might not get the ver 11 anymore from FOTA update which can be done through ur cell phone accessing the device manager. But can be found from Nokia service centres.

Its better to update to ver 11.

Already got v11.043 from OTA, and its more stable...

Please Nokia, give us a more stable update for v20. I have to change n73 for the last "very" unstable update realeased, and bought n86 because I trust you.

ive reported my numerous problems before but ive forgotten my details and at the moment i cant be bothered. my inbox is being filled with notifications of users suffering the same numerous faults ive found plus other faults which i have not come across as i more than likely havent been using the phone due to its incompetance

nokia i have been a devoted fan for 13 years now. i would never speak/ or have said around me a bad word about nokias or even hear someone try to better MY nokia phone. Now u have finally let me down. i am currently at home having to wait for the whole day while my replacement phone comes. this is my 2nd replacement of the n86. so clearly in addition to all these comments these are not isolated issues

I guess there's no poit going around corners in order to get this new nsu v20...... as its apparent it doesnt fix the majority of everyday/ generally useable app/interface issues users are currently facing.

Ur actually making me want one of those sony ericson and i swore never ever many a time.

please guys fix up. make us nokia owners proud. let us have our nokias and not be holding a **bleep** thing u dont mind giving to a 2 year old to play with because its as good as broke.

My n86's issues are:

dropping calls

inability to answer calls with full reception. if i press option while there is an incoming then i still cant select answer

internet closing itself and returning me to standby screen, thereby forcing me to start all over again

ovi store not opening

phone freezing

animated application not working in music mode

i havent been bothered to test the phone out to the full as basic things give me problems so i just tend to use my other more reliable older n series@ 73, 73black, and 95

would be great to continue to be the proud unpaid nokia representative i usually am, downloading and testing every app i can find and remotely have use for.

sort it guys. trust u dont want watchdog on ur case but i am so inclined to write to them too

hi , first of all   am an expert user of nokias

my pervious one was the legendery N82

Disappointments on N86 v20

 1)   Never Got a PURE BLACK in photos at night  just purplish fingers very very annoying

 2)   at Night Alot of NOISE appears due to the camera puts a HIGHER level of Exposure compensation very annoying

 3)   Processing of images when zooming too lagy ! i know its 8 mpx but others 8mpx fones are faster

 4)   frequent hangs

 5)   happened 2 times in 1 month that the fone got hot by itself as if there is a heavy function is running and the battery drops !!  even when i long press the menu button no appl. seems to be running .. i mean something hidden

 6)   the fone needs to be lighter and smoother am not using a windows mobile am symbian it must be faster smoother !!   

 7)   HEY!!!!!!! the headfone volume in music player is too low !!  nokia raise it in next firmwares ! give us the option to lower it !!!

Hi Tanlouis,

I read your complaint about not being able to receive data from Nokia maps using wifi. I took a minute to review my user's manual. It says the following:

          "You must have a packet data internet access point
          defined in the device to retrieve assistance data from
          the Nokia A-GPS service. To define an access point for
          A-GPS, press , and select Tools > Settings >
          General > Positioning > Positioning server >
          Access point. A wireless LAN access point cannot be
          used for this service."

I took this from my N95 8gb manual. It may still be true about the N86. My understanding of this is that one cannot use a wifi access point to navigate using the Nokia maps.

collecting all bugs from around the globe in v20 ..:

 1)   No pure black color in night fotos .. in earlier firmware i got pure black

 2)   Purple shadows and fingers in also night shots very weird and strange from camera flagship !

 3)   In Music player in updating library it search forever and never stops

 4)   fone hangs with theme animation from portarait to lanscape

 5)   GPS in some regions has faulty settings  in v11 was fine

 6)   No DMTF sounds

 7)   In realplayer a major BUG is clear it cannt play pre-installed or anyother videos except the ones caught with its own camera ... hard reset solved that problem *#7370#

 8)   in realplayer cannt fastforward or rewind using navi key in lanscape mode must use the multimedia keys

so its clearly the worst update nokia had ever made in its history !

How can we install the V11 when we already installed V20 ? is it possible to install an old version when you already installed a new one??, if NO we have to chase Nokia for this bad work to force it to optimize and fix all these errors!

I'm a programmer, so I wondered why Nokia didn't make a full compared test between the last version and this bad version!!!!!!! really strange when Nokia is a Greate company !!!!

Nokia never test firmware properly. They expect the customers to do that. They never hardly update existing firmware, they re-write the whole firmware out again thats why it takes time.

My N86 8MP v20.115 runs since one week (7 days)  and the battery indicator says 90% ???

Battery Perfomance enhancement  or a crazy battery indicator...

Thanks for the reply effortful. I had an N95 8GB before the N86 as well, but the Maps software has been completely reworked. It wasn't that I wanted Navigation, its just that I wanted standalone GPS to work. It doesn't work either in Nokia Maps or the GPS Data, as has been mentioned in this forum.

The new Maps is brilliant because you can just download Maps from whichever continent, and you have it on your phone. So this is a little annoying that I can't get GPS to work on my phone anymore.

Have you seen that when you launch camera from applications, the front camera gets activated (when lens cover is closed)and when you click

use main camera, the main 8mp cam gets activated only displaying black screen as cover is closed. I mean, shouldn't there be

an "open lens cover" dialog when you do that?

Also it randomly restarts when using maps or OVI/GPS even after a hard reset

 I agree with all of you who say that the N86 is a waste of money.

mo_shef you're right this is indeed a beta release developed as a face saving measure by nokia so that they could end the

criticism the n86 was facing when compared to other 8mp Cameraphones. Confirmed with service suite & representative at nokia care.

And above all wat did they improve?

lens flare still present(not that much in rival phones) if you want I can show you an image which is sure to prove it and deter prospective users from buying it.

Flash results in yellowish pictures which make you regret turning it on(inherent of LED flash)
