Hi, 

I'm having problems updating my firmware.

On the Software Update application on my phone (Black Nokia N8-00, bought from Vodafone Ireland on a Pay-As-You-Go sim), I can see the "N8-00 Device Software" update labeled 'important (7050kB).' I can select it, read the details of it (eg. name, description and version number 013.016) and tick the box next to it, but I cannot  download it, either by pressing the arrow icon which starts the download and updating process, or by selecting options> start update.

When I select either of those options, the icon animates as if the phone recognises I have pressed it, and the phone vibrates as it does when I 'press' an icon on the screen, but other than that, the phone takes no action. This is the only update that I cannot download, all the others such as 'Social' and 'Apps Update' worked perfectly and quickly, but this does not respond no matter how many times I try, or how long I wait for a response. This strikes me as the most important update however, and therefore I am very frustrated.

When I try to update via Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.290, I don't have any luck either.

First, after I enter the software updates screen, I get the error code 12017.

After I click ok (no matter how many times I download the latest ovi suite or software updater, the error code 12017 comes up), I see the no updates available message next to Nokia Ovi Suite and Update Available > Install next to the N8's icon. (Device software version 011.012 installed).

So my questions are these:

1) Are there any others experiencing similar problems to mine?

2) Where am I going wrong?

3) How do I fix it?

Other than this, and a few errors with the Ovi Store, I have had no problems in the few months I've owned this phone (since November, I believe). I use it regularly as my MP3 player, for web browsing, or playing a quick game, and would recommend it to a friend.

Still, this bug is really annoying me, and I wonder, can somebody help me fix it please?

It seems a bit strange that you can't update Via Ovi Suite. The only advice i can give you is to try the Nokia Software Updater application available Here

And if that doesn't help, the best option would be to visit a Nokia Care Point, as they can have a look at your phone face 2 face to check what is the problem.

Start Menu -> Run->Type services.msc and hit enter.

Find Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), right click then click stop.

Run the update process again.

Belle is currently not yet available for the N8, only for a few new phones like the 700 and 701.

However later there will be updates available for N8 and other Symbian^3 phones, to update to Symbian Belle.

I did it with the computer, once I followed Linksav's advice.

I carried out Linksav's instructions, and then used the update software utility in the Ovi Suite program on my Windows Vista laptop.
