Well, well, well...... My dear n79 users ..... Atlast ive updated to v30.019.

All the bugs of v20.175 still exists....

I would like to suggest to the v11.049 users that don't bother to Update ur fone.... Ur lucky mate......

v11.049 is the best uptill now firmware for n79 with longer battery, more FM transmitter Range n blah blah.

v20.175 only has an additional feature of turning control.... Which is useless for me coz when i turn it ON, the mobile autorotates even when the Autorotate feature is Turned OFF.

v30.019 is just having faster menus ,,,,, 140 mb just for faster menus???? R u makin us fool NOKIA?????

Nokia doesn't care for n79; they only look forward for n85; coz during update, my mob reinstalled itself as n85....... And i think the screen saver issue is just bcoz of n85 coz it cant support it due to its so-called OLED technology.....

So updating uf fone untill something really cool happens like the screen saver bug fix, is USELESS........

Nokia shud know that the sale of n79 is almost equal to n85; I think so its more than n85..... So NOKIA also pay some attention to n79, or else discontinue it....

Stop making sliders and do one **bleep** candybar in the higher N-series for God's sake.

neither am i going to update the firmware to version 30.

Am so lucky not to get the firmware for my version.

In usual sense an update is advisable but in this case update is "NOT ADVISED"

I Hope someday nokia will make a firmware meant ONLY FOR N79.

Finally, The ver. 30 is available in Mumbai, India. I have checked with the service centre in Mumbai & its availbale for the update.

Strangly, I have not seen any bug which is mentioned in the bug list for ver. 30 especially the camera slide open close bug. Even the Navi wheel is working great for me. Yes the old screen saver issue is still there, but as I don't use that function, I am least bothered for the same. My major concern was camera cover open close issue & I thank god, its not there in my Petrol Black N79 with ver 30.019. And no issues with newer ver with navi wheel. its working pretty smooth.

Does the release solve the cal-log issue (showing a correct callers's phone-type icon as saved in the phone-book)? Showing only "mobile icon" is soooo annoying!

I bought n79  four days ago. did all the updates and updated to v30. Today I returned n79 because the navi wheel didn't work properly. When I got the replacement i updated it - but it wouldn't update higher than v20!!!!

So for some reason phones bought in the same shop, by the same carrier, with the same package deal (included wireless headphone, and car set), same language ... are really diffewrent. I'm sorry I didn't check where the previous phone was manufactured - this replacement one was made in Hungary. It clearly has different hardware or something? I hope it isn't inferior in any way to the first broken one...

It really puzzles me...

My friend....

This issue is not related to firmware but its related to the FP2 it self. This problem was highlighted by me long time ago to Nokia Forum & I found out that all FP2 and even S60 5th has this mobile icon issue in call logs.

The problem wont get resolved by any FW upgrade unless Nokia look in to the matter seriously. As this problem is with all FP2 including all E series models working on FP2 edition. U can also check this issue in latest N97 & 5800XM with all latest FW. 

And yes in the new FW 30.019 in N79 the problem is not resolved as its not FW specific issue.

Isn't "Symbian" fully owned and controlled by Nokia?? I don't care where the update comes from, it is to Nokia's embarassement to have the log history so incomprehensively desigend!

I have Nokia N79 with code 0568307, with software version 11.049, software version data 25-11-2008, and type RM-348. In the menu there isn’t any option for using FM transmitter. I have not done an update jet. Should I use the last update (Latest available software for  Nokia N79, product code 0568307 Version:  30.019 ) shown on the Nokia site and if I use it will I get the option for using the FM transmitter? And if that does not work, how I can get that tool for having and using the FM transmitter?
 

Please also tell me, in general, witch are the advantages of the new software and does it worth to use it for me phone?

guys i need help.... i'm running the version 20.175.231.4 and when i use my phone or ovi or Nokia Software Updater it says that there is no newer version.... this version really sucks. can you tell me what can i do to update to the latest??

Update directly on the phone, over the air. You can go to device info or press *#0000#, then check for updates.

This is the only way I can update the FW. If I go via Ovi/PC Suite it offers me old FWs.

Or maybe even better, don't update at all I stopped updating after finding out that most bugs will remain and even new ones get introduced, So my motto is, if it's working than don't mess around.....

How would one know what phone Nokia actually plans to support?  N79 was on all their advertising but now, I'm also having problems with OVI and phone not showing new firmware versions.

OVI takes 20 seconds displaying the splash screen before it even thinks of displaying the software!  Core 2 Duo 2.4 2 GB RAM HP 6710b - little other software installed besides Win XP SP3 and Office.

It's horrid!  Bad nokia! BAD NOKIA!
