I tried about twenty product codes, but for none the new version not available...... I hope in new version the bugs to be fixed! And i am curios if the screen saver will work.

I don't get Nokia (*).

They announced firmware v. 30.011 on June 15th. Four days later, nothing is available.

Seems somewhat moronic to pre-announce releases before they're ready for end-users (read: "customers").

Another famous-smarphone-manufacturer seems to have what it takes to make their users happy.

Nokia, you're falling behind. You've now lost the US to that famous-smartphone-manufacturer.

Europe will go next. 

(*) ... and I've been a customer for over ten years and way too many Nokia "devices".

I whant to see just one smatphone released by Nokia without bugs.....just one! I whant to see just one smartphone updated by Nokia in just three or four months and all the bugs fixed...... We pay just to test Nokia software.

Come on, siefrid. What sort of comment is that? Are we a bit frustrated, perhaps?

NO smartphone manufacturer can produce such a beast. It's not humanely possible.

Even the famous-smartphone-manufacturer I referred to above released a new version of its firmware two days ago -- pre-announced with a release date which they met; did you know that, Nokia? --  that patched nearly 50 vulnerabilities which is just the sort of bug you really don't want.

To be honoust I am in fact frustrated by that really stupid powersave bug that should have been fixed long ago. It is something that has been working perfectly in all my previous nokia models so why the hell break it?? It is very annoying to not be able to see anything on my screen, just plain dead. I want to see my clock and missed calls or sms without having to switch on my screen! Btw the screensaver does appear for just 5secs to go dead afterwards, so it's just a point of letting it stay on and seeminlgy has nothing to do with being possible on N79 or not!! So for a phone like the N79 that we payed big bucks for I think Nokia is really letting us down BIG TIME. And this really has started me thinking about whether I want to have another Nokia again.......

That powersave bug is puzzling/annoying/frustrating, sure, as bugs normally are. 

It reminds of the N79  navi wheel "breathing" feature. What is that? It tells me the phone is (still) alive?

What I want is a blinking light that warns of a missed call or unread message.

It's all about usability and Nokia has far too many variations of their devices to produce satisfying software.

S40. S60. S60 3rd. Then FP1. Then FP2. S60 5th. Branding. Operator locking.

Oh, please...

That famous-smarthphone-manufacturer has, effectively, only one device type. They can focus on building great software (which is never bug free, OK?)  Look at their app store. They build it in, what, two years?

Has any seen/use Ovi Store yet? That message "sorry, this item is no longer available" is just my point.

Don't even start about that navi wheel breathing **bleep**!! That makes me even more angry, break relevant stuff and putt in completely useless ones. I even wrote to nokia about this. Why not make the naviwheel led flash or blink rappidly after a missed call or sms (as they already seem to know how it should be like the LED on my E51), that would at least have made the loss of the screensaver somewhat acceptable..... This breathing thing is the most stupid gadget I have ever seen....

What I don't seem to understand is why functions that are realy usefull are removed from software, they should be there at every release and only usefull stuff should be ADDED without removing ones. That's why I was very surprised to find that holding the * button didn't switch off bluethooth like it did on my older E51, holding * on my N79 doesn't even have another purpose so why remove this??????

There is no "purpose". Quite plainly, Nokia is spread to thinly across a vast expansion of different device types, variants, brands and what more.

They simply ran out of resources to keep the quality up.

It's just plain obvious and a shame, really. They used to make superb devices. I was (yes, past tense) a very faithful customer.

In a way, Nokia has this Microsoft "feel" to it: still a mammoth to be reckon with but inexorably losing both that innovation edge and, let's face it, technology prowess.

If they keep it that way, they will continue to slowly slide into irrelevancy.

I sometimes have the feeling they are inventing every firmware from scratch, while it should be very simple if you ask me. Things like holding the * button to switch off bluetooth is very simple and effective and just plain handy. So imho that's something that has to be standarised across all models. Especially if there's no other use for holding the * button.

Well N79 is the latest & yet lousiest nokia phone i ever have. Even the new N97 doesnt impress me. Other makers moving to 12MP camera..capacitive touch screen...touch optimize interface...smart dialling feature.... look at what N97 can offer? Oops off topic abit....

So are nokia announcing N79 new firmware for fun? Where is the ver 30??? When can nokia fix my N79 COTD kernel -exec 3 issue? Lousy....so lousy...

Note that nokia says: new firmware "RELEASED" not "will release".

so, it should be available now. but there is nothing for FOTA nor to NSU.

i checked various product codes for MEA and EURO and APAC and for all, it says no update available now.

what does nokia want exactly from its new firmware announce for N79 while it is not available???!!!!
