Nokia E90 Firmware upgrade

I have just received my E90 from Vodafone today.

I have checked using the Nokia PC suite and the only version of firmware available is 7.24.0.3, this is the version in the phone.

I know there is a new version 7.40? yet the suite does not show it.

Can anyone tell me what is going on, is the download available for Vodafone E90's in the UK and if so how do I download and install it without causing problems.

I have tried contacting Vodafone UK (20 min on hold!!!), eventually they said they will call me back but don't know when, could be later in the week........**bleep** service!

Re: Nokia E90 Firmware upgrade

Do a search within these forums and all your questions will be answered, but in short Nokia release the FW for specific product codes which relate to your phone model, if its SIM free or tied to an operator such as Vodafone and where in the world you are. The FW for locked phones is always later out than that of unlocked as the operator will want to add there own things to it, or take some out. My E90 is an unlocked version but the FW is still not there for my product code. So you may have quite a wait. As I said do a search and you will find loads about the product codes and to what they relate.

Re: Nokia E90 Firmware upgrade

sage,

Thanks for the info.

I am a little bit concerned about a work around as if this model does prove to be an early one and develops some of the known problems, I don't want Vodafone saying they will not honour the warranty as I have changed the country code.

I can just hope that Nokia will not make us wait too long before releasing the update to the UK network providers.

trying to get hold of them direct is like trying to find a hen with teeth - **bleep** impossible!

I love the phone, it is solid and works incredibly well. I know it is only day 1 but so far so good all works and no "Hissing" and the ability to get a signal in places others cannot (my old 6300) included is fantastic.

Come on Nokia, give the UK network users a Christmas present, release the firmware update to Vodafone and the others..........Please.

It's not Nokia holding you up, but Vodafone. All phone makers, Nokia included, can only release updates for network-branded phones when the operator approves them.

Re: Nokia E90 Firmware upgrade

Aaah I see,

Well in that case Vodafone need to pull their fingers out and approve then release the software, I just hope they do not make too many changes to it.

Any idea approcimately how long they take to do this after Nokia release it to unlocked phones?

Re: Nokia E90 Firmware upgrade

No idea at all, but as I said my phone is unlocked and still no update for my product code here in UK even though FW has been around for some weeks now. So don't expect it too soon.

Re: Nokia E90 Firmware upgrade

Thanks Twopuds,

I have contacted Nokia direct with my product code and IMEI number and asked them to give me date of manufacture (made in Finland), and advise on need for microfone / screen work?

I am also waiting for word back from Vodafone on availability of firmware upgrade, as usual it is like pulling teeth.

I have ordered the 6GB card though, and also the AX-Alex case from Germany as I want to carry the phone in a belt case rather than loose in the pocket.

I am very impressed with build quality and speed of operation so far and look forwards to many years of quality service from it.

I do not intend to overload with additional software, in fact I am only looking at upgrading current office to 4.5 and maybe adding some additional themes and ring tones.

I would love to hear your views on the phone / software, and appreciate any advice and tips from current owner users.

Thanks to one and all.
