The 5800 is the first S60v5 phone to reach V31, so why are you so convinced that there won't be any more updates? All the other phones that never received updates beyond V31 are S60v3 phones. The 5800 is barely a year old, I'm sure that more updates are on the cards.
your ignorance knows no bounds...
5800 Navigation Edition launched recently, extending the life of the device by atleast another year. There will be more updates coming to 5800, because its nokia's best selling phone ever. Thats exactly why they have relaunched the device under the moniker "navigation edition" and added a few extra quirks.
Seeing all your posts, its almost like you don't want the update to happen. Pessimistic much?

"btw....5800 already have the v31 and i know that all nokia for ends in the v 3x.x.xx except for some"
all except for some? huh?
I just updated my wife's E63 to V4, so they do go higher. Then again, they skipped v3 completely on that phone.... at least in North America.

Waiting and getting a firmware upgrade from nokia several times is no achievement. neither nokia is being greatful to us to provide these upgrades. for name sake they include some so called features but generally, they have been resolving the problems. Unfortunately its been more than one year now when i bought this phone (Dec 2008, it was v 10.00, then), i have been upgrading hopefully all the time they release an upgrade, but the problems are not gone.
I agree a phone should be reasonably priced but nokia is reminding me of, "all good things come at a cost". I had enough patience but sorry, i could not repeat a mistake again, recently i bought an i-phone for my wife and not the so called 'i-phone killer' (5800).
I could have taken this phone again if nokia was able to rectify all issues in past one year. This has not only shown a lack of product development and research at their end before launching the phone but also a lack of will to protect their brand name and customer satisfaction. I think the number of topics / discussions / complaints are maximum for 5800 on this site, still we all see where nokia stands today with regard to this model. I hope all the people planning to buy a phone could read these posts to get a clearer picture of nokia.

Yes Nokia 5800 is a pretty good phone, Nokia got a break through in market with 5800. The sales of 5800 is very good. Firmware is totally dependent on Market Strategy. All the required features that are requested here depends on how it affects the other products.
Example: If Nokia 5800 is given all the features of N97 execpt Camera.
Who will go for N97, every one would have gone for 5800, its some thing like. All cannot demand all the features of Mercedes in Honda
Every thing is decided on how is affects market & sales of other phones, if its give a particular features.
Lets wait and watch what all come in for Nokia 5800 next firmware.......

I really don't undestand Nokia's logic. If you have a best selling phone, and you make it even better, you will sell even more!!.
But no, they prefer to sell a few expensive N97 rather than lots of cheap and good 5800.
This tells me that Nokia wants the 5800 to disappear. The don't want a cell phone between N97 and 5530. That way, if you want GPS and other HARDWARE stuff, you'll be forced to but an N97.
They should admit that the N97 isn't a great phone for what it costs and release a new firmware for the 5800.

That would be a good argument if these features were only present in the N97. Doesn't make sense that N97 and 5530 have them and 5800, which is the middle of them, doesn't. It is weird, don't you think????

N97 has a fantastic capacitive touchscreen. The experience is there, even though its SymbianS60.
5800 is also a good phone. However, the kinetic scrolling isn't included. Aaargh!

No!, N97 screen is resistive not capacitive, so far the only Nokia phone with capacitive touch screen is X6

n900 it is capacitive too.
And don't even dream with a Symbian 2 in an old nokia Cellphone with Symbian...
Symbian it's a not open proyect. And they don't care about preexisting versions.
Android it's an open proyect, and people that have android 1.0 will make possible to run android 2.0 in theirs phones, it will be possible to share that experience and every fkng android will be always the last version.
It's a shame, but i loved Nokia/symbian till this event. Now I preffer Nokia/Android, but it doesn't exist... I really want Maemo success, but it's expensive to me, I have to work an entire month to bought a N900
This year I will bought an HTC/Android or Motorola/Android or */Android unless Nokia turn his path and recovers me.

ktami12 the exact date can not be told, This Chrismas is nokia's firmware updates release xmas, lot of phones are getting new firmware update. Dont know when 5800 turn comes.
Hope soon.

Do you at least know if Nokia knows the exact date when they want to release the firmware update with KS and enhanced Homscreen?
There are thousands of rumors spreading through the Internet. Why does Nokia just tell us if there will be an update with new features? We would appreciate it!!! Believe me.
To be honest. I dont want to keep my "tube" with those bugs. I'd like to have a device which at least works fine - KS and HS would be nice, but i dont expect nokia to implement it. I bought the device without those features so i can't blame anybody for this.
That cheaper phones (eg. 5530) also received KS and HS is sad & i hope nokia wont forget us 5800 users.
Happy Christmas
