@skyee

Thanks again for keeping us USA/Canada/Oz customers informed. Looking forward to seeing a post from you that says "update today you guys!"  :smileyhappy:

Any info on my previous question on the buggy E7 screen + Anna?

Thanks again

Here's a thought. For those of us still left waiting, just skip Anna and give us Belle :smileyhappy:

Re: No update available? - Post your productcode & I'll check.

Can someone please explain WHY it's so difficult to release a SW update in a timely fashion?  Is each product code phone so different that it requires special programing  for each one???  I don't understand.

I am guessing US is last because there are so few nokias here.

Its not because the hardware is different, its because the network they run on are so different and the communication regulations are different. BTW the USA is not last, Canada and Australia at the very least are also still waiting. With possible still other smaller nations as well. Australia for 1 has quite a large nokia holding here, so it has nothing to do with the number of phones in a country but all to do with network requirements.

Re: No update available? - Post your productcode & I'll check.

059D597 is my product code. Could you please give me an indication or estimate as to where we are at with a product update for Anna  please Skyee. Promise I will not rant and rave if dates are not available.

I am very happy with my Nokia N8 with the PR1.2 release software!! although I must confess to installing the SPB Mobile Shell user interface to give me a couple of extra homescreens and more freedom to customise apps and widgets but as an item of hardware it is great and I love it. I am getting excited about the pending arrival of the Anna update for Australia but if it didnt eventuate I would still be wrapped in this phone. Dont envy you the job of trying to satisfy some of the unrealistic expectations of some of your customers. It should be noted by some that these are after all predominantly a phone for making phone calls and that the other smartphone features are for convenience and will usually be not as user freindly as a tablet and that when not loaded with junk they are more than adequate. That said  the usability of my "phone" is up to all my needs and I use it to run a business. Just a little vote of confidence in a sea of mixed opinions and some negativity. Nice to have an option to a fruity piece of hardware.

Unfortunately nobody really knows when the update will be available for Australia as yet.

The last info we have is that it had been submitted to telstra for testing. was then returned to nokia due to some instability with emergency calling and was to be resubmitted to telstra in august have a look at this link http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/phones/smartphones.html#tab-spf

But it is so good to hear that you like your phone. I too enjoy my E7-00 and use it also for business relate tasks. I have heard about the SPB Mobile shell, and have been wondering how hard is it to set up. The extra home screens would definitely come in handy. Really dont need the extra stuff, just more home screens.

Re: No update available? - Post your productcode & I'll check.

Setup of SPB Mobile Shell is very simple and the 15 day trial is good to see if you like it. I have found it very simple to setup and my only complaint is that it can be easy to get into edit mode when you dont want it but when you are familiar with it it does not intrude too much. It is nice to be able to customise apps and widgets individually instead of in blocks of 4 and I love having 2 speed dial directories and the main Nokia dialler. That is what is good is that it is still utilising much of the existing Symbian OS and just enhancing it and I find with that with the show home screen shortcut I can revert back to the standard N8 Symbian OS easily and return to SPB with the menu button.  There is also a new update released for Anna I beleive. It is like most pieces of software not perfect but I like it and its ease of customisation. And like you I am not chasing extra stuff. To me it just makes my phone feel a little more modern, nothing more. I really dont ask for much more than a basic smartphone experience with some weather, the odd browsing, camera and a little music. N8 fits this bill to a tee.

Re: No update available? - Post your productcode & I'll check.

Sorry to get of subject on this thread. Is after all about Anna but it should be noted that the delay in the Anna upgrade is not the end of the world and that the user experience of the N8 and it appears the E7-00 and more than likely other Symbian ^3 devices is still able to be a good one.

Re: No update available? - Post your productcode & I'll check.

Hi,

I bought my N8 in the USA and I currently reside in India. I understand that Symbian Anna update has been launched in India and my query is very simple. Can I update to Symbian Anna by taking my device over to some authorised Nokia Care center.

Thanks,

Muthu

Re: No update available? - Post your productcode & I'll check.

@muthu_kr: Because your N8 was purchased in the US, the product code is tied to the US market, and I suspect you will not get OTA update to Anna, just like I am not able to do so (in the US). So my suggestion to you is what you said, i.e. go to a Nokia care center in India and they will probably update it for you. In the US that, unfortunately, is not even an option :smileysad: I think there might be one store in NYC and maybe one in Chicago but who knows they might be closed down by now.
Nokia N8-00 (NAM, Product Code: 059C8T6), Symbian Belle, Type RM-596
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (NAM, Product Code: 0577454) Software v51.2.007, Type RM-428

Re: No update available? - Post your productcode & I'll check.

@hgohel: I sent an email to the authorized Nokia care center in NYC called Jack's Place and I asked them if they could flash my E7 to Anna, and they wrote back and said they'd be happy to do it for $35. I'm going to wait for the official release and do it myself, but nice to know that's a option. And yes, the NYC Nokia store closed down last summer. :smileysad:

Re: No update available? - Post your productcode & I'll check.

And as stated already in some posts: Symbian Anna is unfortunately not available for Australia, US & Canada yet - but we're working on it.

It would be good if someone from Nokia at least gave some explanation for this hold up. People are so frustrated, i am not, i got anna weeks ago, but for the rest of these people... i think they deserve a little more explanation. If its been released it seems just about everywhere, and as for australia, hell, New Zealand got theirs weeks ago and surely the issues there cannot be too different to australia. man, we can almost throw a rock and hit them they are so close.

People are not stupid. Dont patronise them, give them valid reasons. They then would not be getting so annoyed with Nokia. It does not take much.

total state of confusion
