Does the latest version of NSU still supports Nokia 6288 cos' my friend just tried updating his phone via NSU today and it says that my friend's phone in incompatable??? (something like that)
got de latest version of NSU v1.4.14.. but it says 'phone not supported - could not recognize the phone' ! moreover, when i key in the product code in the NSU website,it says the latest version for the 6288 is v6.10 !? 1.What's wrong with the latest NSU? 2.Is v6.34 (or 6.48?) officially released??
If you can't get the phone upgraded, the reason could be it's a "branded" phone. My 3 version of the 6288 has 6.10 but trying to update it fails because only the 3 version of the Nokia platform is supported. I'm guessing this is also true of 6288s from other service providers as well.
The only way to upgrade is to get the phone unlocked, which is what I am going to do.
Do you know if I can use this application to replace the existing 3 version of the Nokia platform (6.10) with a genuine Nokia version? The 3 version is heavily modified by 3 and I suspect that simply applying updates will not work.
I had been planning to unlock the phone with a code provided by 3 and then taking the phone to a Nokia Care Centre to have the software completely replaced but if I can do it with the Software Updater I will.
NSU will give you the latest version for your phone.
Branded software versions are not related to the SIM-lock or to any contractual arrangements that you have with your operator, phones are built with network-branded software because that is how the operator ordered it from the manufacturer - it's the same with all phones.
I don't know the details of the supply contracts that exist between the networks and the phone manufacturers, but no manufacturer will authorise its service points to do replace network software with generic.
