This is a weird one, trying to get my bluetooth to switch on this weekend didn't happen.

I've recently updated to the latest firmware for my phone, and the bluetooth was working fine a few days ago... but now I get this rather odd message (that there seems to be no answer to).. "Unable to perform bluetooth operation" when trying to turn on Bluetooth...

Any ideas?

Anyone else with an N82 got this problem?

Bluetooth is fine on mine after the update.

It could be some 3rd party app causing trouble. I had to uninstall the nokia conversation beta after the update because my contacts wouldn't open correctly.

Just totally blatted the phone. Still not working. To the care centre it is.

Have you tried reinstalling the firmware after a hard reset?

That usually cures issues like this.

I'll have to try it when I get home, but I have read various times that this doesn't solve it either!

Anything is worth a try before losing your phone for up to a month!

It cured it on my dads N95 when it wouldn't install apps, use GPS or bluetooth.

Ok, so I reinstalled the firmware? YES
Tested bluetooth? YES
Worked? YRS

Try it again today? YES
Did it work? NO

So, back to the drawing board.. reinstall firmware again or get this repaired?

Did you try the hard reset before reinstalling the firmware?

Because of UDP problems can be carried over, even after updating.

I hard reset it before i updated it then restored my messages/contacts and settings from an older working backup.

I'm out of idea's, not had any trouble with bluetooth but I only use it for file transfers at the moment.

i guess the problem lies here. most likely the older working settigns which you have restored might be the cause. it might not be completely compatible with the phone.

try hard resetting the phone and using it for some time without restoring the old backup and see if the problem persists.

if it does, then you will have to take the phone to the nokia care center for a detailed check.

if the problem does not recur, then the problem is due to the restoration of the old settings, which might not be totally compatible now.

i had no issues with bluetooth on my N82, after updating the firmware.

please let me know if this helps.

I can't see how restoring settings from and older firmware would cause it not to be able to turn on Bluetooth. Its the same protocol all round!?!?

I guess I gotta try that again to be sure though

I have same Problem. After Update bluetooth not work.
Before or after the update hard reset not help. I have not backup before or after update.

were there any applications installed on the memory card before before upgrading to the latest firmware.

if there were, try removing the memory card from the phone, restarting it once again and then using the bluetooth, without the memory card.

There are no applications installed on the memory card.

This is the thing. It works for a few days, then refuses to work until I reflash the firmware!

Turned the phone off and taken the memory card out, but it still refuses to do anything.

Your Bluetooth module is faulty. I had the same problem with a brand new N82 (firmware v10), where the Bluetooth would come on at first then would just refuse to switch on a little while later. Luckily for me, I managed to get an exchange on the spot.
