Hi,

Has anyone managed to update the 6700 classic? I keep getting a "software update failed" message when I try and the phone is stuck in Test Mode until I take out the battery.

Tried all sorts of suggestions based on previous posts but nothing seems to work.

Help should be provided by a Nokia Care Point to fix your phone. It that there is nothing you can do yourself...

Tried to update on two different computers with no joy; emaild support and they responded quickly and gave me some directions that they thought would solve the problem.

Unfortunately this did not solve the problem and I had to remove the battery from the phone to restart it.  I have since sent another email to tech support with a screen shot of the error message from the updater software.  Hopefully I will have more information soon.

The reply from Nokia was that I should book my phone into a Nokia Care Point where they would be able to reflash the phone; it would seem that they had run out of options!

I then managed to try the update using a computer with Windows XP, as my normal machines run Vista, and the update worked fine so the issue must be with Nokia Updater Software and Windows Vista.  I am now running V 07.60.

It is too early to say what has changed although the phone does seem a little quicker.

Thanks for the info, and unfortunately you aren´t the only one who had that problem. Nokia should work on their Vista support ASAP!!!

I'm using XP and it after numerous attempts I Finally upgraded the firmware.

To help I updated the PC suite and NSU to the latest versions.

Just tried it on a XP laptop (originally was Vista desktop) with the latest suite and NSU and still didn't work.

You said "numerous" attempts? What if anything did you do prior to the successful one?

I have a laptop and PC both with WinXP SP3.

Tried on PC with latest versions of PC Suite and NSU, kept getting failures.

Tried on laptop with latest versions of PC Suite and NSU, had 2 failed attempts where it said the connection to the phone was lost but re-tried a 3rd time and it worked.

Hmmmm.... won't work for me on that set up. Still get the failed message warning about USB hubs... the connection doesn't drop or at least I've not seen that message yet.

i was getting the "hub" error message initially. try using different usb ports.

you may want to try using the usb ports at the back of ur machine.

When I updated on my Windows XP machine I did not install PC Suite, I just installed the updater software; that is all you need as the updater software downloads all the necessary drivers.

The install stopped a couple of times and the software told me to remove the usb, battery and charger and then install the USB, battery and charger and then hold the on button for 1 second.  This happened about 3 times and each time the install had progressed a little further.

It seemed to prefer having the charger connected even though the battery was full!

I informed Nokia support that it worked with XP but failed with 2 different attempts with Vista machines; they said that they would forward that information to the necessary department to deal with.

Well, still no luck for me!

Tried uninstalling everything, then just installed NSU on my WinXP laptop. Connected the charger and tried every USB port, disconnected, reconnected, reinstalled drivers, etc, etc. Still get the same error that it failed.

Don't know what else to try other than take it to a Nokia care point, but there isn't one close to me.

Very frustrating.

do u still get the failure message about the usb hub?

FYI - whilst i was trying on my PC i kept getting the USB HUB error message.

After trying on the laptop it did fail a few times and reported that the connection between the phone and the laptop was lost but I just re-tried. Think it worked on the 4/5the attempt.

is there anyway you could try a different machine?

Please view this thread and test your camera with the flash on and clarify if you experience the same issue.

I would like to know if the issue is widespread or specific to my handset.

Never get past the USB hub message - I can replicate the connection lost message by changing the USB port between phone detection and applying the update. I only have one WinXP laptop and a Vista desktop... no where else to turn I'm afraid.

I think it is the NSU (new versions) that is causing the problem because I don't encounter these so called USB issues with the older versions of the NSU.

How do you use an older version? I tried but insists on a network connection and then won't continue until updated....

 Hi i read your post and tried the camera on my new phone which i got yesterday. I also get a blue streak when i use the flash which completely ruins the photo. I have also noticed you cannot use the loud speaker on the radio, when it states in the manual you can. Also when listening to a song on the media player, if you hold down the search button it sometimes gets stuck and freezes so you have to cancel back to the home screen. So far i am not impressed with this handset at all and hope it just needs a software update.

its nice to know i'm not alone with this problem.

i updated the firmware to V7.60 which is the latest version and the camera problem persists .

i cannot use the loudspeaker with my radio - isn't this normal though as the phone prompts you to connect the headset.

i've contacted nokia care and i'm awaiting a response so will keep u posted.

anyone else with a 6700 experience this issue?
