I don't know how it works in Vista.

I use Windows XP and I followed these steps: Right-click My Computer, click Manage, and then click Device Manager. If the phone is connected, in the list on the right you should see Portable Devices (or something like that, I don't have the phone with me right now): expand it and right-click MTP Device, then select Disable.

This solved the problem for me. Looks like Windows MTP Driver iterferes with Nokia Cable/Flashing Drivers in my system.

I now have the V07.90 Firmware on the N 6700 Classic.

Finally some success for XP users - I hope this works for everyone! What about those on Vista/Win7....?

Nokia is still showing latest Firmware as v7.60 for my device, which I'm already running... no 7.9 for 6700 BLACK it seems.

I guess the same thing has to happen for Vista users ( ???) I am not sure, I am NOT an IT specialist nor a mobile phone specialist.

So, I guess Vista users could follow about the same steps ( ? )

As far as the appearing of the Software/Formware version is concerned, I had the same thing ( both via Vista as via XP ).

Maybe it depends which version of the software updater you have ( ? ).

I used Software updater via PC Suite.

Hi I have just found a good site explaining what the MTP driver does and how it works http://www.usb-software.org/mtp_function_driver.php

It seems to be standard on XP and Vista and is something to do with Media Player.

I will try this when home tonight.. If it works I will be jumping for joy!! Will save me being phoneless for 2 days while Nokia repair centre have to update it for me.... COme on NOKIA this isn't good enough.

Hi All,

I can confirm that disabling the Nokia 6700 under Portable Devices under Device Managaer has worked. I did not get an error as I was gettig earlier and the update was successful. I reinstalled the 7.60 version to get rid of T-Mobile branding. However My phone does not switch on now!! I can see Nokia logo and thats it..it does not go any further! If anyone has any ideas please suggest....think it needs to be taken to repair centre now as I have screwed it big time!!!!

I can also confirm disabling the MTP worked on XP. I have Win7 at home and could not find MTP to disable. Came to work disabled MTP and it updated! Fingers crossed it fixed the Voicemail message bug. (Where if you did not open a message from voicemail it would place the unopened message in the middle of some 500 messages and you'd have to scroll through to find and open it!)

Bingo!!! Finally did it on Vista successfully. 7.60 is up and running now.

First attempt failed but had to close PC Suite after disabling Media Player driver.

No - the voicemail bug is still there and very annoying it is too.... though I hold no hope of Nokia EVER fixing it after this mess with the firmware update issue. Flog em quick and stuff the customers, who cares once it's out the door right??

Well mine doesn't seem to work still. Disable the Nokia 6700 as suggested but when I run NSU it tells me there are no new software updates. My firmware is 7.60 which is really frustrating because there seems to be a 7.90 available. It doesn't even give me the option to re-install 7.60!!

This is just getting so so frustrating.. Why can't Nokia see there is a problem and pull their fiungers out and help us loyal customers that have ALWAYS had Nokia phones....

Looks like its going to have to go to the NOkia reqpair centre for 2 days to be done by them. Why should this have to happen????

Hi guys.. I have had enough of Nokia taking no notice of us poor 6700 owners.. I thought ... I have hjust emailed the UKs Watchdog programme complaining about the handset and Nokias lack of response.. How about everyone starts to do this and perhaps we might get a platform...

A few days ago I did a FOTA update to 7.90 (from 7.60). The Bluetooth problem still exists. Connectiong to other devices is impossible.

This was definitely the last Nokia I bought.

I must state that connecting my phone via Bluetooth DOES work, both in/with car and with pc. So THAT, maybe is a set up failure at your side ( or maybe your Nokia isn't right ). If I were you I'd check if everything was done right (settings ) and if that doesn't work then maybe contact Nokia or send it to Nokia via Freemail ( well, I sent it insured as I did not want to lose the phone ) or bring it to a Nokia Care Point.

Only playing music via bluetooth in car I did not manage to do so ( I don't know if that's my own failure setting it up and or Nokia and or Volkswagen )

I don't know what FOTA is (probably Firmware) but if your 6700 Classic does nothing with Bluetooth then there is somethig seriously wrong, all I can think of is settings, or at the device where your phone makes contact with or hardware error.
