Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

Yeah, right. February 1st indeed.

I (and many others) remember when it was going to be DECEMBER, then JANUARY, and now February 1st????

More like February 30th I would imagine.

Let's face it folks, Nokia have simply given up with the N97, after realizing it is SOOOOOO buggy, and quitw frankly they couldn't care a toss about their customer base.  Simple really. Supply the product, Market the product, Sell the product, then FORGET the product AND CUSTOMERS....

Why do you think so many networks have dropped the N97?  Because it was reflkecting badly upon them, and no doubt still is, with a lack of support from Nokia.

St3ph3n,

I wish I had as much confidence in Nokia as you do. After being "let down" so many times by them, and their general ignorance with regard to the N97, "my money" is still on a February 30th release date.

Let's see if I (and many others) are proved wrong....

Cheers

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

I think I have decided to give up on the N97, and go with the N900.  Dell SB had it for about $430 yesterday.  Regarding the N97?  Ebay here I come.  Should be able to get a pretty good price.  Especially with the fact that it has Garmin Mobile XT and is protected by the Zagg Invisible Shield..

@ st3ph3n..

Well, what can I say.... :-)  ??

I am aware you are in "Oz", but I thought there were only a few HOURS difference between us "limies" (the mother country, UK)! and Oz, but it would appear there are a few DAYS difference.... Because here in the UK it is now Monday 1st February, and it has been for about 18.50 hours, and there is STILL no s/w update for the Mokia Beta N97....

So, either "I told you so", or, we're working on "Mokia times scale" where it has not yet reached 1st February????

I still favour the s/w to be released February 30th/31st :-)

Cheers

Mmmm STRANGELY quiet in here.... Where is everyone??

Maybe updating their phones with the latest s/w (Maybe they have another brand, because it doesn't seem to be happening with Mokia at the moment). (Not surprising)..

Yup. Busy with my HTC Hero. Got rid of my N97 but I still subscribe to this thread because I can't believe the way that N97 owners are still being treated.

Abandoning Nokia brand, their time is up...

Just decided to leave Nokia behind me, never again. Have bought Nokia since years back but this is my last one, forever!

I live in Sweden, and you might think there would be some neighbor benefits from Finland's Nokia, but NO.

While other countries receive frequent updates, latest 2.1, fooled Swedes are still stuck with 12.0 for RM-505 serial:0588301 (unbranded).

This N97 is the worst I've ever owned. Lossy GPS, bad UI (handling) full of bugs and Nokia still ignores the Swedish market!

Well, I have just found a new mission in life, warn all my friends an companions for Nokia and guide them to other brands.

I've paid for navigation, have had it for repair of GPS twice, but it still not works as promised "made for navigation, ha ha ha". New Maps with free navigation can not be installed on FW 12.0 (lucky me, who stupidly paid for it earlier).

So, Nokia, how are you planning to keep up with your customer relationships with customers in Sweden, when constantly ignoring them. No information or explanation what so ever, which is a cornerstone in keeping customers.

Bye, Nokia!

Re: Abandoning Nokia brand, their time is up...

Yes, gnm11, we too are fools here in the US, also stuck with v12.   We, too have been wisked away by years of top-quality, high tech phones that have been always ahead of the rest, until now.

It would be different if Nokia kept us informed, responded to the requests, or even updated us.  But this isn't the case.  The lack of response here tells me that they have probably assessed the damage and have decided to abandon the model all together. Nokia can please respond if this is NOT the case, or do not respond if it IS the case, then we will have a clear picture of how to move on.

I'm suspecting that this was a grand experiment for them.  They most likely got sucked into a contract by some high-tech firm that claimed they could release something with everything for Nokia as a turn-key product and save them costs by doing so.   Why else is Nokia's eyes closed, mouth shut, hands tied ?  By now, they've probably fired the executive that made the decision and are taking the loss on the stocks.....and us.

Your mission is warrented, I'm directing mine to those who write about buying and selling stock for publicly traded companies. This blog is the target.   AHHHhhhh the internet.  Always there.  Cannot be stopped.  Nokia can't burn hundreds of people on a $600 phone and expect no fall-out.   I'm watching this blog for the ones who setup the anti-blog.

Let us know what new phone you decide on.. !

Go the the main Music Library, and press options>Refresh Library. I might take a while, but thats how the Phone knows what's really there, I had an Archos PMP that did this too.

PS. I am in colorado using ATT and I got v2.1 on 2/1/10 that very morning... lamenting for the rest. I had to go straight from v12 to v21 since v20 did not ever come in for me...

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

I am from Portugal and I have a TMN branded phone with PC 0587247 with firmware v. 12.x.

You are talking already about version 21.x and the 20.x is still not available to my N97. Do you know any reason for that. I tried NSU, OVI 2.0, etc., with no success. I even wrote an e-mail to Nokia and I was told that I was suposed to have the firmware v. 11.x. Amazing, isn't it?

About two months ago, I post here telling that besides I had no access to the firmware 20.x, I have been a good experience with the phone. However, after cheching better some of the issues raise by other people here, I realize that:

- sometimes the ringtones atributed to someone are not recognized and it plays the nokia tunes;

- Frequently, I loose many calls when there is a change in signal cooverage between GSM and UTMS. And this is typical in my region with my operator TMN;

- I made a long trip with it and the GPS proved to be very faulty, frequently loosing the signal, sometimes for more than 10km with an open and sunny sky. I also realize that if I plug the lighter charger the signal is gone and it only gets back after unplug the charger.

Recently I went the main Portuguese Nokia Care Centre and they told me that my phone needs to be dispatched to the factory for repair and this will take 2 to 3 weeks. Meanwhile, they don't give me a substitute for that period.

I guess I have to leave there the phone to get it repaired and try to get a simpler one to that period.

Not a good story to tell about my recent Nokia experience. I should have bought a cheaper phone.

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

V2.x does not allow me to connect directly to my mail server,  claiming it is invalid.  This is the same server I've used for years, and still on my computers, and it worked on my last version of the N97 software. They are trying to get me to aggree to terms that connect to NOKIA first, "potencially" pay NOKIA to connect to my server ?  This cannot be a valid stratogy.

Ok.  So now I have a top-of-the line phone that does not do email without going through a 3rd party server ???  PLEASE say it isn't so.

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

I found out what was blocking me.  When it asked for my server name, I was using the paste command to enter part of the server name.  There is a bug that does not actually enter the text, although it is visable.  You must enter the server address manually, not using the paste command for any portion of the address.  Now I can connect directly.
