Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

@xbungle. Thanks for the update on the v2.0 upgrades coming out. Still puzzled.

I noted that the firmware upgrade for the Black version has come out [RM-505 Country Variant Netherlands NL - Black (0587245)] but there is still nothing for its white cousin [RM-505 Country Variant Netherlands NL - White (0587246 )]. To my knowledge there isn't any technical or branding difference between these two; it's just the color.

Then why has one its firmware upgrade already available while the other has not? I'm at a loss.

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

Hello!

I wasn't able to find software updates throught the phone SW updater or through *#0000# but i checked the PC's SW updater and successfuly updated to v. 20.0.27.

Nokia the next step should be video formats. I want my Phone to play avi and divx formats. That will surely make the N97 a far better phone. thanks

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

Moustafa,

Nice suggestion, but I think it would be better for Nokia to sort out the FUNDEMENTAL problems first. The actual problems which people are having, due to the fact that the product hadn't been properly Beta tested, but instead "rushed to market".

Once they have their "house in order", it may be time to add some additional functionality, but let them get the product RIGHT first!!

Cheers

The Nokia Software Update team :smileysurprised:

WHEN THE TIME YOU WILL EVER MAKE A SMARTPHONE THAT WE CAN DEPEND ON !!!! IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING THAT WHEN WE REALLY NEED THE PHONE TO WORK, IT HAS TO HANG!!!! AND OTHER DAMN PROBLEMS.

IMAGINE I JUST SOLD MY N95 8GB AND WENT FOR THE N97 BLAUNTLY

EITHER THE PHONE WORKS FOR US OR WE ARE FORCED TO WORK FOR IT.

I JUST BOUGHT MY NEW HTC MOBILE 1 WEEK AGO AND SO FAR NO PROBLEMS. QUITE HAPPY NOW.

YOU ARE ANNONCING N900 AND I SCARED OF PURCHASING IT.

NOW THERE IS AN UPDATE AND OFCOURSE  WE ARE NOT ELIGIBLE BECAUSE OF GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS.

IS NOKIA NOW DEFINING REGIONS FOR PERFORMANCE?

PLEASE HELP

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

ADD to the following:-

When writing or replying to an e-mail (using the native e-mail client) using the "virtual" keyboard, the use of the space bar (alongside the zero "key") invokes a LINE FEED** instead of a space!

The only way round this is to type a word, followed by right arrow (>) THEN the space key.

**This happens if, like me, you have a "signature" file/text at the bottom of an e-mail. If there is no "signature" file/text, then use of the virtual space key works fine.

Perhaps someone would wish to confirm/deny this, as I have not seen anyone else report this. Yes, the Nokia tune does sometimes (not always) rear its ugly head, although I have NOT got it set anywhere..

I have no other problems (since being on my THIRD N97), but still await the latest s/w (v2.xxxx), but this has not been released yet on Voda with 0585262 prod.

Cheers

Kevin,

I couldn't agree more. For such a price tag i would expect a perfect device. I completely share your point of view and wish to see the Nokia Team work quickly on fixing the main issues.

You will need to ask vodafone that question as they have to approve it before nokia can release.  There's already many users posting on voda's forum to give them the hurry up.  You may want to visit there and back them up.

Vodafone are usually one of the quickest UK networks to approve updates often appearing within a month or two of the unbranded version.

as it was saying someone, its not nokia problem any more, you have to spam vodafone forum about it, they are blocking the update for phones.

yep, 550quid and not even a hotpatch to stop calls crashing your phones - yes they did slow it down from happening in v2.0, but its not fixed which makes me laugh, ive bought phones for £5 that have ringtones and only fail to answer calls and make them when the battery runs out. hardware and battery wise the n97 is sound, but my gosh, the s60v5 os on the n97 is worse than the windows equivalent vista - software that ruins perfectly good hardware

Moustafa/Gallimar/Anyone in the UK..

Just as a point of interest, this morning I called my local Nokia Care Point to see if they have v2.00 s/w available for Vodafone branded handsets. They tell me they DO**** have it available for download. I asked them again, to confirm "for Vodafone handsets", and they again confirmed they DO have it available for download. Looking promising. I DIDN'T however tell them the product code, 0585262, so let's hope ALL Voda sets are 0585262, and they do indeed have the CORRECT v2.00 :-)

**** It MAY be worth you calling your local Nokia Care Point to check

PS/

Has anyone managed to confirm/verify/deny that if one creates/replies to an e-mail (having ones own "signature text" at the foot of the e-mail), and using the virtual keyboard, then every time one hits the "space" key (zero) it invokes a line feed as opposed to a space. Only way round this is to type a word (using predictive) then the right arrow (>) key, and THEN the space key (0). This will then cause a "space" as opposed to a line feed..

Nokia tone still presents itself every so often (although I HAVEN'T got it set anywhere), and also if one has an "animated" theme in use, the phone every so often forgets this, and loses the "animation". Anybody else experienced this?, and does v2.00 fix any of thosedefects??

PPS/

Nokia STILL remain suspiciously quiet over the whole issue with the N97, the problems, the dissatisfaction, and the customer "complaints". They have truly "dropped a proverbial b***** !

Cheers

(Edited to include a suggestion to contact Care Point) Kx

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

Further to my previous post, I called another Nokia Care Point (London "Flagship Store") who inform me that v20 (v2.xx) is NOT available for the N97

Does ANYONE at Nokia know what is happenng with their products and service??

Pretty poor. Nokia have certainly gone DOWN in my estimations, and those of others.

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

[ Edited ]

Dear updaters

Here’s the latest update on the N97 2.0 software status, and some answers to your earlier questions:

Using your PC to update

It seems we had an issue with the Nokia Software Updater denying software updates via certain ISPs in some countries. We believe that this error was rectified this morning and that software updates should now be offered as normal (depending on product availability, of course).

To ensure that a fresh server query is made, please delete the following PC folder contents before connecting your device to check again:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer

Software availability

We have now published software version 20.x for 311 different variants. Those still missing are mainly operator variants, and the primary reason for that is we have not received their approval to release the software.

Many people have asked “When is it available for xxx?“. I’m sorry, but I don’t have visibility of this. Any Care point that tells you they have the software for a variant which is not available through the Nokia Software Updater may be misleading you.

Software roadmap

At the moment, Nokia does not release details of software roadmaps, but all devices are designed for updateability and we are constantly making maintenance releases for all our portfolio. Some releases will contain just performance and stability improvements, some releases will also contain major new functionality and application upgrades.

To the best of my knowledge, there will be future releases for the Nokia N97, but I cannot tell you when it will be available, what it will contain, or which variants and operators will support it.

Using your device to update

Sorry, still no details of when you can use your device to update, but your device can be set to periodically check itself for FOTA availability. Go to Menu > Applications > SW Update> Options > Settings > Auto-check for updates and select “On”. This feature also checks for application updates outside the normal release 2.0 content.

Regards

xbungle

Re: N97 software update 2.0, available via NSU

Thanks for the update on the provider-related issues with the v2.0 fw upgrades. However doesn't explain why a v2.0 fw upgrade is available for a Black N97 but not the White N97 that is not provider-locked.

I have the RM-505 Country Variant Netherlands NL - White (product code 0587246) and still don't see any v2.0 upgrades. However for its cousin, the RM-505 Country Variant Netherlands NL - Black (0587245) the upgrade is available.

To my knowledge there isn't any difference between these two other than the color.

So why has one its firmware upgrade already available while the other has not?

Still puzzled and getting more and more annoyed that I'm stuck with the older fw with its memory management issues.

Hi, to the Forum.

So xbungle can you please tell me why after nearly three weeks and " the availability of the updatet for now 311 different Versions of the N97", that there is not a update for a normal unbranded black German N97 (0586707: RM-505)?

What´s the Problem? It´s a unbrandet Version. It is 3 weeks since the update went live. Should it not be out about let´s say 2 weeks ago? Germany is not a small Country and not a small market i think?!
