@LondonDad: what happens if you re-install v20 again? does that make the calls work?
a couple of people have said restoring settings can cause problems - did you do that?
12-Nov-2009 12:46 AM
I tried re-installing again tonight, but if anything that made things worse, Lost the ability to connect to internet via my wifi (must connect by contract WAP and if I try and change the settings it just crashes when you choose a different connection type)
So I have plumbed for the hard reset (Shift+Space+Delete+Power). It started hopeful, went through all the settings and has been hung on installing something for the last 10 minutes. Not sure what and I can't cancel it. I'm watching with interest. Ah it's just rebooted itself maybe luck? No, still installing (What's it up to?)
Ah, it's just asked if I want to over write facebook. At least it is a development.
Ah HA! A screen that I have not seen since June when I first got the phone! It really has reset, but I have an IMEI number again and yes I can make a phone call again ![]()
So anyone else with this problem please note, it seems that you have to be brave, lose all your settings and do a hard reset, and rebuild it from scratch ![]()
Now, where did I put my Wifi security key?
Thanks all to the various forums, this evening has been an eye opener for all the problems that exist (and the various solutions too)

Hi,
I have bought this N97 in India (code 0587487). Even though the website (nokia.co.in) says firmware version 2(0).0 available on the home page, whenever I try to update either using NSU or OVI or OTA update, everything tells me 'NO UPDATES AVAILABLE'. My current software version is 12.0.0.26. Can anyone please help me.

Dear updaters
N97 release 2.0 update
This post is to inform you that we are now over half-way in delivering the N97 release 2.0 software for as many variants* as possible: 174 variants have now been published.
Customization of variants is required by many of our trade partners and operators. Levels of customization vary greatly, from adding operator web bookmarks to fully integrating applications, but each variant has to be built, tested and approved by the trade partner or operator. Please note that some countries and retailers only sell certain types of variant, so even "SIM-free" variants may not be the same as global standard variants.
Issues when using your PC to update
Some consumers have reported here that they are unable to update even though the "Can I update" service says updates are available. Thank you very much to those of you who provided your IMEIs for investigation, we now believe there to be an error related to certain anonymous IP addresses - please keep trying.
Using your device to update
Tests are still ongoing with the over-the-air delivery, so please note that any query from the device (Û#0000# or Menu > Applications > SW Update) will say your phone software is up to date.
I apologize for the continued delay, but be assured we are working on it as quickly as we can, whilst also trying to meet the demands of updates for other products.
Regards
The Nokia Software Update team

when can we expect the memory leaks and bugs in the n97 to be fixed after v2.0? all very well updating your other products, but i spent 500 quid on a product that doesnt work
here i did the work for you:
now just test it yourself
BUGS:
*************************************************
* Keylock can not be disabled with the hard slider located on the side of the phone sometimes when you plug your handset in via USB mode to your computer and then open the keyboard slide from closed - Requires a batt pull.
* Some new features like maps, ovi contacts, nokia messaging wouldnt have installed after the update until you run menu>applications>software update (it is also possible that you had them installed already as they wernt exclusive to the firmware update) These are also considered as optional updates which may explain why they do not come as standard in the v2.0 update as advertised - However it still doesnt even show up as updatable for some
* When plugging the phone via USB to your computer and selecting MASS STORAGE MODE the messaging settings (under "Other") are changed from being saved on Memory E:\ to C:\ without the users knowledge - this will also in some cases affect the email widget on the home screen
* There appears to be an issue using kinetic scrolling in ovi store. This however has been noted by nokia and can be fixed by downloading the latest version and then updating it
* Some people are able to see letters on the dailpad. This maybe region specific as not all countries use or require it. im trying to work it out. Any info appreciated
* Some people get wierd errors and crashes after the update which would make it seem less stable than the previous v12 - like described here: /discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&threa
* Some people are getting errors on v2.0 from restoring backups made from v12 - unfortunately it can be solved by not restoring - see here http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php/topic,13281.
* It has been reported that the famous NOKIA TUNE is still at large, even after hard reset. - CONFIRMED
* I have had one user report the hang on answer bug remains after a hard reset on v2.0 - CONFIRMED
* In some cases the data packet icon still shows under the reception bar even tho there are no active connections under the connection manager. Also in other cases there is a data connection but no active programs using it. This is being caused by the recently updated version of OVI store. - EDIT 30/10/2009 OVI STORE UPDATED BY NOKIA TO FIX THIS
* In some cases the back light doesn't time out and therefore drains battery - it is yet to be determined what causes it
* There appears to be a memory leak in the coding - if you take over 100 images one after the other with no apps open, with images/videos being set to be saved on e:\ and 50% free on c:\ your phone RAM will eventually decrease to below 13mb and will then crash (experienced this on a day out multiple times at madam tusauds and natural history museum)
* The photo browser doesn't display all the images taken (take over 100 images and the photo browser will not display 100) - but they can be recovered by transferring the raw folders to the PC

Great post XBungle, I have given you a Kudos for it.
a big BUT, People on this forum have been screaming with frustration for that information for a fortnight, all you had to do was post that information much earlier. People do not mind waiting as long as they know what they are waitng for and why.
You have 'almost' broken the 'Nokia do not talk about updates tll they are released' Rule.
I am one of the lucky ones with a Euro l Handset and got the update on day one but I do feel for the guys out there who have to wait and cannot understand why. I can almost feel/hear the anguish and frustration in their posts, if I can then I am sure you can too. They are noty asking for the earth, just a heads up on progress now and then.
If this is a change of Heart from Nokia to be more informative in the future then it is a good one, I predict that the majority here will agree with me.
There are guys who have ditched their N97's and Nokia too because of your unwillingness to keep them in the loop.
Anyway, I do hope this can be kept up by you, it will be appreciated by all. We would love to see a post from Nokia here next friday giving a similar update, something like:
N97 release 2.0 update
This post is to inform you that we are now xx% in delivering the N97 release 2.0 software for as many variants* as possible: xxx out of a possible xxx variants have now been published.
Just a few lines explaining the delay -
At the moment, Nokia has a Face only a mother could love, everyone else wants to slap it - that has changed for now at least.
Now that you are feeeling talkative, I am going to take a chance here and ask a question important to the N97 conmmunity:
Now that all N97 owners can rest assured that their Update is on its way, What if any progress is ongoing with with handsets at v20 still suffering problems. Can we look forward to other firmware in the future.
Regards

Can anyone tell me which N97 Variant / Product Code is the one straight from the Nokia Stables. Without any influence or variation by any Trade Partner, Operator, Retailer, Governing Body, Country Legislation.
The original, Virgin handset, and where would I purchase that handset, Would there be any negatives to owning / operating that handset?
Thanks

Still no update available from NSU for my 0585162.
Could you clarify what you mean by "anonymous IP addresses"?
There is nothng odd about my IP address, and I'm not connecting through a proxy server. I am using a NAT router/firewall, but I'd imagine most connections (or at least, domestic connections) are done that way now. Are you implying it's worth trying without the router?
Can anyone else confirm successfully finding the update from behind a NAT router?

That is the product code for the vodafone UK version of the N97. You need to contact vodafone for information about availability as they have to approve updates before nokia can release them.

You are placing your blame in the wrong place. Its vodafone that insists on it's own product code and customisations and it's vodafone that decides when it's customers get the latest software.
I suggest you go to vodafones forum and start chucking the blame at the correct people.

You do not have to go to the Vodafone forum, Xbungle has answered your question but not given you a date, he wont because he can't.
Sit tight it is on its way.
I dont like waiting either but sometimes we must !!!!

Posting on vodafones forum puts pressure on vodafone to approve it for release.
Obviously xbungle and nokia cannot give a date about the voda version of the firmware as only vodafone can say when and if they will release it. Vodafone could make the decision never to release it and there is nothing nokia could do about it.
In recent years vodafone have often been one of the quicker UK networks to release firmware for popular models.
So the choice is: post on voda's forum to give them a hurry up like many users already have or wait patiently for voda to approve it. Posting on this forum will not get any results whatsoever as nokia cannot release it without voda's say so.

This latest update hosed my N97 up good. The mail client no longer functions. It does not work with photos in the sense that when trying to send a photo via the SEND>EMAIL, the email client no longer opens to send the attachment. Other issues: the device is slower, lags and has issues with photos not showing up under photos despite them being there. Used to work just fine and now it does not. Touch screen used to work fine and now it doesn't work for beans. I wish I had never updated to this version. It's too bad it's not like a computer where, you can roll back to a prior version or, clone the OS before the update. Now, the device is mowing through battery life like no tomorrow, the screen freezes etc etc. I have hard reset the thing and it's still of no use. Junk.
