Unfortunately yes. It was a big mistake to buy N97 mini and now I am stuck with it. Every time I see my gf's 5800 with firmware 51 which HAS a MINI qwerty keyboard, I just can't stand it. I REALLY hoped to see that damn mini qwerty keyboard on this version 12 but it just won't happen, I guess. 5800 less than half price of n97 mini is far a better phone I think. The only con of 5800 is the touch screen which is a poor quality than N97 mini. Everything else is same if not better. It even has the GPS like n97mini. 5800 has even built-in games, versus n97 mini doesn't! So why the hell the price of n97mini is so high when there is no after-sale support like 5800? I tell you why. Because there are far more people who bought 5800 because it was cheaper than N97mini. So Nokia, at least build few functions from 5800 in N97mini firmware. Like those games, or that mini qwerty keyboard.

Yes " Nicholas_K" it would be nice to have a mini-QWERTY also, but I guess it isen't a high priority for a phone that got hardware QWERTY.
I think that N97mini is mainly targeted for the business-segment, not the kid-segment. So games etc are not a high priority either. (and don't misunderstand "kid" above, just a labeling for the group. Of course grown ups can be happy 5800 users)
I think that QWERTY-phones (just like clam shells) in europe is a very small niche (unfortunately) and thus Nokia are not putting to much attention to it
An well if you don't find a hardware QWERTY essential, well then you should have bought another phone, e.g. the 5800

Please note that you here

can get SWYPE and mini qwerty keyboard for your N97mini !!![]()

But be aware that it is a beta, and only a very limited numbers of languages is currently supported. (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese)
Tested it with English, and it works like a DREAM!! i think that it is actually faster than using the hardware keyboard after two-minutes of usage... And much easier to operate with one hand than the alphanumeric T9 type.
This could make me change away from a hardware-keyboard on my next phone... (If it also supported my native tongue...)

I guess there will never be an update, all developers are working on S^3 and S^4. The N8 is already on firmware version 11.012.229.01, the N97 mini is only at 12.0.110 one year after its release! And many thinks N97 (mini) users have been asking for during the last year have been included in S^4, not in N97 updates. So I guess its useless to provide feedback here on these forums.
I always thought that Nokia was providing long term support for its products, but I guess some products are left out in the cold.

When will nokia release a new firmware.
The currnet one is very buggy
-RSS feeds show 'unknown error' when I add a feed(hard reset does not fix it btw)
-Homescreen crashes often
-The old S60 memory leak was still not fix but it occurs less frequently

When will nokia release a new firmware?
Never for N97 & N97mini, never
...also for me it was a fault to buy this phone.

I don't have any high hopes for further sw-upgrades for phones over a year old.
Individual apps yes, but not the basic firmware.
Yes the homescreen crashes often, but it's rather easy to restore: Press and hold the task-switcher, and select open of 'the house'
Are you using the 12.0.110? It seems better than the previous one. I do not get too many spontaneous boots. But I do have it turned off a couple of times per week, so that might help it keeping sound?
Do yourself the favour and try turn it off and back on often. Maybe as a regular habit every night/morning for a period, and see if this solves your crash-problems.
(Haven't found a boot-app)

Question as at 24th August 2011
Is there a authentic listing or table on the web that defines which Product Codes for the N97 mini can have their Firmware Upgraded to the latest version (Ver 30 +)?
I ask this question, because the Nokia Product Code web checking page is give false information - i.e. Product Code 0580188 should be available in the UK, but it is not.
So which Product Codes can download the latest firmware and which can't!
Any comments, welcome (Note: not interested in changing the product code).

I had similar issues with the previous firmware version (as my frustrated postings earlier in the thread indicates).
I also looked for a positive-list, but didn't find it.
But I did find
a) a list of possible product codes
http://www.nokiausers.net/forum/nokia-n97/31541-n9
and
b) the site where you can check a specific code...
http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/product-support/dev
So in principle you could check one by one - or perhaps create some software that does it.
BUT as you have experienced, the fact that it reports it as available for a product code, doesn't 100% mean that it is available(!) but I think you can be sure that it means it will be available within days (or weeks) of being reported available.

Thank you for the response - Re: Firmware V30+
If there was a revised issue of the NokiaUsers.net N97mini Product Codes, this would indicated which Product Codes can have the latest firmware and which one's are still pending.
The Nokia Product Checker Web page "Letter Box" system at present is giving me wrong info (or is it?)
Best regards,

Why would anyone think that a phone that started almost 2 years ago would still be getting updates. yes it is probably buggy, but really after all this time, but a new phone. These are not like a new car where you get 5 years waranty and support on. half the time you buy technology these days that has just been release and it is already superseded.
If you all added up the amount of time you all take to post your messages demanding an update and multiplied that by your normal hourly pay, then you could have bought a new phone. Forget about buying an unbranded phone, you will most likely be the last in your country to get an update, just go to your phone company and find what deals they are offering and pick a new phone.
after a year of owning a phone, the only time i even bother to connect it to a computer is for backing up things up, like contacts, I wouldnt even think that someone would have made an update for it, and honestly couldnt be bothered looking.
If you look up the nokia website you will find hundreds of phones, do you really expect that they would be making up new firmware for all those phones. Nokia is not some tinpot company that only has a couple of models of phone to worry about. They manufacture the most phones, so support is always going to be for the latest and greatest phones.
If you have phones that dont work, take it to nokia and get them to fix it. Otherwise just buy a new phone and leave the relic for the baby to play with.

Well instead of the whining on why there should be no new firmware. Please note that they DID actually release new firmware recently: the 30.0.004 ![]()
![]()
The question is who are getting it and why the nokia page claims that it is available when people don't get it when they try to fetch it.
Issues about the 30.0.004 it self can be found here

PS
And on the hours. If you were on minimum standard wages, the N97mini would have set you back a fortnight of work after taxes in Denmark when it was released. So pretty unlikely for those persons to buy a new similar phone every year... And by the way the only realistic alternative with a keyboard is the SoneyEricsson "Xperia Pro", that is only available in Canada due to shortages from the Japanese earthquake ...

From that then I would say that the people of denmark must need a payrise. have you looked at the E series phones, like the e90 or the e7 etc. although these beings more business related phones, they may charge more for in denmark. anyway good luck with your updates whilst you may have had one recently I dont think they will continue to provide the updates for aging phones. I can certainly see a time sooner rather than later the range of supported phone will be dramatically reduced, especially with the changing face of the mobile industry at the moment. And whilst your phones may have been worth a lot back then, they certainly arnt worth that any longer, surely your carriers can provide you newer phone at subsidised rates like carriers do for the rest of the world.

@jraduga
You are completely missing the point here....
We are not talking about future versions.
We are talking about a released version, that people can't get despite the page where you can check your specific product code, claims that you can.
Please note that this thread started a loooong time ago, on the previous firmware upgrade offered.
And of course it's highly unlikely that there will be more principal updates for N97mini. It's an old phone on a OS being abandoned from a company Microsofts Troyan horse Mr Elop seem to be killing...
(E90 is an ancient brick. and E7 is almost identical to N97, but even more huge & clumsy - I would NEVER even consider buying that as a replacement, It has been over ten years since I had a phone that heavy, not even my 8110 was that heavy...)
