Hi XB
Thanks for getting back to me, and I appreciate your "humour" with regard to the ongoing saga with v11 for 0591336 (Vodagroan) devices.
I'm actually already logged for the SMS notifications, but "you know what it's like" in eagerness to get the software, to HOPEFULLY clear most of the phone problems, I (and no doubt many others) check the site daily to see if v11 is yet available, and it obviously caused some "hope" when yesterday it was reported as being ready for download. :-) ;-((.
Vodagroan are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard, and offer no information at all.
Fingers crossed the gremlins will be sorted out, and v11 will be available soon (for 0591336)
Cheers again

I really think the Nokia policy of allowing resellers to control the release date of their firmware is seriously bad news.
It will, or has, seriously damaged their credibility and it could knock them out of the high-end market completely.
Here's why:
The average customer will buy a Nokia phone from a network and if they experience problems they don't know (or care) if the problems are hardware or firmware related.
They could well be because their network is supplying an old version of the software.
So the customer takes the phone back and gets and HTC/Sony Ericsson/iPhone and probably vouches never to buy Nokia again as they're rubbish (when actually they just have out of date firmware).
Or ... if they're technical they (we) hit this forum and moan about the phone and/or debrand.
...And probably vouch never to buy Nokia again due to their support and firmware policy.
Either way Nokia lose out.
Ironically the network, who have caused this, don't care as they are simply a reseller and will resell whatever handsets work out best for them and their profits.
I have no problem with the network adding their logo and apps I'm never going to use, but there must be a way for the user to get the updates direct from Nokia, the manufacturer, on their time-scale, not the networks'.
Or they could go for the Apple policy of not allowing anyone to touch the firmware.
Just my opinion, but I think it's really risky for Nokia, especially after the N97 debacle.

Hi Kevinx1
Not exactly the rapid publishing I was hoping for, I'm sorry about that - there were some problems building the VF version, but I have been informed that v11 is now available for Vodafone UK N97 mini variants.
0591336: N97 mini RM-555 Vodafone UK GB
0593719: N97 mini RM-555 Vodafone UK GB
In fact it was published last week (did you get an SMS?) but I have been out of the office for a few days.

Yeah, it's called the "N8". N97 is dead. Sad (and expensive) for us, profitable for Nokia.

Hi xb,
Thanks for getting back to me.
NO problem.
I found the s/w was released last Monday, I believe, and downloaded it directly (I received the sms a day or two later).
Anyway, downloaded the s/w in hopes that it would cure the problems I havebeen having with the phone.
There is nothing "visible" as to what the s/w had included/done, so I guess it was just for "deep fixes" within the phone.
My hopes were dashed after a day or so :-(. I STILL hear the bl**dy Nokia ringtone every so often, although I have NOT got it set anywhere! The phone still freezes, and is not fussed what programme it is running whether it be messaging, photo's, browser. For instance, I receive a message, read it, hit reply, start to key a message, but the phone accepts NO input. Hit the "exit" button - Nothing. Hit the silver button - NOTHING. The ONLY way out is to hit the RED (end call) button. That takes me back to the main menu. Hit the silver button. LONG press on the affected application - EXIT the application BUT IT DOES NOT EXIT THE APPLICATION :-(.
The ONLY way out is to reboot the phone. It then all works fine. Until NEXT time. So random, and NOT specific to ANY application.
I do NOT have loads of 3rd party apps running or even loaded on my device.
So sad. Nice handset, but let down by its reliability.
Been a Nokia "fanboy" all my "mobile" life, and have ALWAYS advocated the Nokia name, but no longer. Having being let down by the N97 and now the Mini, I am switching brands. I know this makes no odds just a single customer leaving the brand, but I feel I (we) have been REALLY let down.
Cheers

Same here, I already switched to the Nexus One. I preordered the N8 for the better camera, but I can easily see returning it in favor of my Nexus One. The "smoke & mirrors" (promised firmware updates) won't be waited for again. Even the Iphone is passing you (Nokia) by now. Not bashing, just stating the plain, ugly truth.
