N96 update - SOS

Hi everybody.

Sunny greetings from Portugal.

I just tried to upgrade firmware on my N96 and in the middle of the update

got the message that the operation failed. Even the Recover option failed.

So I tried to turn on the phone and got a black screen.

Then I tried the "3 finger deep reset" (depress these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on ) but got the very same result (black screen).

PLEASE, can anybody help me?

Thanks

Hi n96_fan

Unfortunately it doesn't look good and a trip to a Nokia Care Point is probably needed. but have a look a this post:/discussions/board/message?board.id=topfaq&message.id=112#M112

Happy to have helped the forum in a small way from 2007-10

You can't do anything at home. Go to your nearest Nokia Service Center and give them your mobile. Tell them that you want paid service. They will charge you some money for reflash your phone.

Re: N96 update - SOS

This information is incorrect.

The N96 was released in October last year, ie. just over 10 months ago. An N96 is therefore still in the warranty period.

A phone bricked by using NSU is covered by the warranty. There should therefore be nothing to pay and if the NCP does try to charge you then you should refuse to pay.

Re: N96 update - SOS

Dear grschinon, as per my knowledge and my personal experience, I want to tell you that if the mobile is not purchased from authorised distributor channel, not imported that piece specialy for that country and customer purchased it from other country or not from right channel then NCP not gives service still if it is under warranty. It is my personal experience. Once I purchased N82 from Dubai and I got same problem and my country NCP not gave me paid service also because they told me that it is european region mobile and here we give service only for asian region mobile. I have to send my mobile Dubai for reflash it. I got free service there because my mobile had Dubai warranty only. I had contacted every possible sorcer of Nokia like NCP of 3 city, email, call but nobody help me because my mobile was purchased from other country.

Thanks guys

Like I said it was purchased on ebay, I will try to contact the seller in germany.

I still have hope, as it was bought inside the Eurpean Union, but without an invoice

it should be hard...

Re: N96 update - SOS

As I told you before that you will get paid service in portugal. If you want free service then go to Germany where mobile originaly imported and there you don't need invoice also because Nokia has its own records for every mobile which they sold to end users. If you get solution then accept it by clicking on solution icon and close your post.
