Ok, so it's over a month later. Has ANYBODY been able to update their Orange (or heard from Orange if/when it might happen)

The update still has not been released on the list that I have.
When it is available you will be able to get it from the NSU or possibly the on device updater. That is how you will know when it's available to you.
There is no guarantee that orange will ever release it. Unfortunately asking here won't make it happen because it's totally orange's responsibility to approve it.

The update isn't available for the orange branded models yet. The delay is caused by orange not approving the firmware yet. So it could be next week, next month, next year or even never. Orange are the only people that can tell you when it will be released. Calling them is usually pointless because the will just lie and blame nokia. So it's just a case of waiting.
Psychomania I want to learn your feelings about this: Let's say your were waiting for the new firmware for your 5800; would you be waiting in patience? Let's say it has been over a month, and would you still calmly wait no matter how long it takes? Would you feel bad while others using the higher number firmware and you still don't? Would this bother you? Would you care at all about the new firmware or its release date? Would you comfortably use your existing firmware untill you recieve your new one?
This ain't a tricky question I just want to get you feelings about it.
Thanks.

Yes I would wait patently because as I have said before I had to wait seven or eight weeks for version 11 to be released in the UK. I also had to wait over a month for past N82 firmwares along with updates for branded models when I used to buy those.
It does annoy me but I know the score so I do not feel the need to constantly post or get upset about it.
I do campaign for changes to the system to the relevant people. I suggested long ago that firmware be split into three parts. Part 1 would be the main firmware that everyone gets at the same time, part 2 would be the language pack and part 3 would be the branding. All 3 parts could be updated independently of each other.
Updates on network branded models are an entirely different issue to updates on unbranded models.

As I said, I was wondering if anybody had heard from Orange. It's a discussion forum.
I know that nobody on this site has any power.

No offense but no one will hear anything from orange. If you speak to anyone at orange they always blame nokia. The department that handles firmware approvals, the only people that do know, does not speak or pass on info to the customers. The only time people know that an update is available is when it appears on the NSU.
No problem, I do understand. It's just that on occasion info can get "leaked" and the only way to get it is on these sort of sites.
Shame my N96 is a company phone because I would've sold it a long time ago (all though beggars can't be choosers)

The best place for leaks are unofficial sites like symbian-freak and dailymobile.
They may also give you alternative ideas to consider that cannot be discussed here.

If it's a company phone they should not be considered at all
I understand however that Orange have released the v12 which is the firmware that fixed most of the major faults with the phone. That is better than some operaTors I could name
