N95 firmware 31.0.017

Prior to installing the new firmware I'd like to know what's new in this.

I'm struggling to find this info on the Nokia site. Also I've googled it but with no concrete results.

Does anybody know what are the news there?

there are a few fixes that speed things up marginally beware that this update will fix exploits such as x-sims and unsigned apps hacks.

Naresh

If you  got your phone as part of a contract with a UK provider (T-Mobile, Orange, etc) then the firmware for your phone will have been altered by your network, your phone will have a product code unique to that provider

every time Nokia produces a new upgraded firmware it is only instantly available to Vanilla Nokia handsets (unlocked unbranded cost in the region of 4-500 quid for an N series).

For the branded handsetsthey have to send it to your provider who will do there alteration before sending the approved version back to nokia, who can then make it available via NSU

Some operators can be very slow at putting out the new releases,

If NSU is saying that there is no upgrade available for your phone when you know there is a newer version for the Vanilla handsets then you need to get into contact with your network and push them to make the new version available

Re: N95 firmware 31.0.017

You have the most stable firmware that Nokia released for N95, I would suggest that your browse/read the forum for the varying experiences of those N95 users who upgraded to v30.  Then decide for yourself if your really want to upgrade your fw.

To update your fw, connect to your pc with Nokia PC Suite installed with Nokia Software Updater.  Make sure to make a backup of your files.

Re: N95 firmware 31.0.017

@Naresh:
This page should explain why you can't update: http://linux.sgms-centre.com/nokiafaq/branded-phones/

@jericho:
To say that V20 was the most stable firmware for the N95 is nonsense. V21 was already an improvement and V30 was the most stable IMO with excellent power management. Yes, there was an extremely vociferous minority complaining about V30, and then there were people repeating those complaints as if they accepted them as the gospel truth, and the whole "problems with V30" thing was consequently blown completely out of proportion. There were L10N problems with the original V31.0.014 released in December, and that's why it was withdrawn. V31.0.17 corrected those problems and should be an extremely stable release.

Re: N95 firmware 31.0.017

The fact that you've had the phone unlocked (ie. you can now use SIM cards from networks other than the original one) has nothing to do with the branding. What you now have is a phone that has been customized by Vodafone UK but that will allow you to use SIM cards from another network. But it is still a Vodafone UK branded phone that you will only be able to update when Vodafone UK approves an update.

Re: N95 firmware 31.0.017

Hello.

This may be a silly question, but is the v31.0.017 available for N95-3 or is it just for N95-1?

Re: N95 firmware 31.0.017

It's not a silly question, and 31.0.017 is only available for the N95-1.

Visit this page to find out what the latest firmware version is for your particular phone: http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/software/device-software-update/can-i-update

Re: N95 firmware 31.0.017

Another issue you have to factor in is operator branding. It could also be that, if your phone was supplied by an operator, that operator is holding back on firmware updates. Read this page as well: http://linux.sgms-centre.com/nokiafaq/branded-phones/

OK - at least you've got all your bases covered. It's just a question of "wait and see" now.

Re: N95 firmware 31.0.017

Hi dagahss

When you updated to v20.2.011...did your wallpaper picture compress?

I have an N95-3 and updated to this version and my wallpaper is now all squashed. Actually took it to the local nokia care centre to have it done...and thats how i got it back. They tell me there is nothing they can do about it. Very Poor.

So I'm hoping the next update will fix it...if there ever is on

Re: N95 firmware 31.0.017

Hi,

I am using N95 with V 30.0.015 / RM-159 Nokia N95 (D1.01)

I am unable to upgrade it to  31.0.015 or  31.0.017.

When upgrading OS not getting any software available as  31.0.017... its showing as  30.0.015 only.

Is there any way to upgrade or its not available or relesed in INDIA.
