N95 Not seeing USB connection.

N95 Not seeing USB connection.

This has been an issue since the phone was bought. I am on O2 and have an 18month contract, of which, I have 14months left! I also have insurance for the phone.

That said - I plugged the phone in the day I got it and it connected to my XP PC first time.. No issues. I did the install correctly.. CD before plug-in et cetera. HOWEVER.. Since this connection has taken place, no PC will see the phone. I have tried 6 different PC's, 4 different cables and tested all this with 3 other N95's (work collegues). The setup is fine for them but nothing happens for me. CPW (CarPhoneWarehouse) told me to plug in my phone and update the Firmware... idiots. Anyways, after a long debate with them, they agreed to send it off for repair. They told me 5/6 weeks and tried to take it off of me on the spot. However, in my experience, (once before, a couple of years ago), they take the phone and wipe it.. They tried to tell me otherwise but I lost my contacts once and that was enough!

Anyways, without stomping too far off the beaten track, is there any way I can fix this? Flash the mobile to defaults with a code or something? Brick it and get another one?!

Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Mike =)

There was another thread recently where someone had a similar problem with their N81. They solved it in a rather unorthodox manner but it seemed to work for them.

Re: N95 Not seeing USB connection.

Start by switching the phone off and removing the battery for 5-10 minutes. Then put it back in, switch on and try again.

If that doesn't work you could always try a hard reset.

Make sure to back up your phone's memory to the memory card first of all.

Power the phone off.

Hold down the '3', '*' and green 'call' keys simultaneously and keep them pressed down.

Switch the phone on, still keeping the 3 buttons pressed.

Only release those buttons once you see the phone display the Nokia "handshake" logo or the language selection screen.

If that doesn't work then you will have to take the phone to a Nokia Care Point, I'm afraid.

Re: N95 Not seeing USB connection.

Perhaps you have the default USB mode set incorrectly in the device.

Go Tools--> Settings--> Connection---> USB---> Ask on Connection. Should be set to "Yes"

If its set to No and you have the USB mode set to anything other than PC Suite then it may not appear.

Re: N95 Not seeing USB connection.

Thanx grschinon, I will try that when my phones backed-up to the memory card.

shuntfield - This was the first thing I tried, I have been changing it to 'off' and back to 'on' ever since, trying to get it to work!

Bloomin' Phones!!

Cheers guys, will keep you posted =D

Re: N95 Not seeing USB connection.

Hard Reset seemed to confuse me.. I can't remember the last time my phone was in such a raw state! I mananged to test it though, on a known-good rig but to no avail. Perhaps I should start asking the CPW for a new one?! Indeed, I shall do that since this is still a new phone. I only wish it was a Vodafone.. I work closly with them and they could probably just switch it out for me on the spot :smileysad:

Faulty USB Lead?

Do you have another that you can try?

Yes.

In his first post, the OP said he'd tried with 4 different leads. :smileyhappy:
