Hi,
I have an N82 which I've faithfully stuck by since mid-2008. I got it with firmware version V30.0.019 loaded, and have periodically tried via PC Suite, Nokia Software Updater and Ovi Suite to check for updates to this, to which each time the response has been that my firmware was in fact up-to-date.
Imagine my surprise when I randomly Googled around earlier this week and found out that the N82 firmware is touching V35 now! Where have I been?!
Basically all the associated Nokia software tells me my N82 with V30 is up-to-date. The website however, when I enter the "code number" found behind the battery, tells me I should be updating to V35. What could be the reason for this? Can I download standalone installer for firmware updates somehow?
I'm located in India, and my phone is not tied to a carrier..

I'm not sure what "changed the product code" means. So you're saying that the product code in the firmware (or ROM, or NAND-whatever, or wherever else it's stored) might not match the one printed beneath the battery? Is there any way I can find out?
Also, how do I find out if I have a Finnish N82? I'm in India, and bought the unit here..

Thanks.
Did that, and it only says "Made by Nokia" - no mention of any country. A cursory web-search tells me it shouldn't really make a difference though?

I am not sure if it's the same, but you could have a look at this.
Anyway, in my opinion, authentic Nokia phones are these which write 'MADE IN FINLAND'. So, if your phone doesn't write MADE IN FINLAND, isn't, probably, authentic. That's the reason you have this problem when you try to update your firmware and it says it's up to date. That's my opinion.

That can hardly be true, given that Nokia has factories all over the world. In any case, I followed your link, and checked my IMEI here: http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=i
which says Primary Market: Europe
Does/can this have any bearing on my issue?

Thank you dilbert! This indeed seems to have been the case - I used some software to read the product code off the phone, and it was completely different from the one on the product sticker!
And plugging in the internal product code into the Nokia site tells me that that particular code remains at V30, hence my issues.
Woot, super. This clears up things ![]()
