Am I the only one that has noticed that N80 is now shown as supported on the Software Update page?

I'm downloading now so will report back later if it is really working!!

It's working but there's no firmware available!

N80 on O2 one of the biggest UK Operators.

No V4 firmware available!

So don't hold your breath!

i've noticed it and it seems to be working. was on v3.17 and said that an update was available. (generic phone) is downloading the update as i type. will report on the success when it has finished

That's interesting. I've got a generic/unlocked phone and it says that there is no update available! The phone is:

The (58.01) portion of your version leads me to believe that your phone is not generic and infact contains an operator variant.

My generic N80 only has (01) and displays exactly the same version, to the character, as benharbachs' N80.

Althought you think you have a generic handset, it's not! Not much you can do really, until the Operator who supplied your handset originally, generates / authorises their FW variant.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering how I could identify the different variants. I currently have two N80s, neither of which can be updated at the moment. One was purchased through Vodafone and has the ID 42.02, the other (the one I am trying to update as I thought it was unlocked) is 58.01. The "unlocked" one was purchased SIM free from Expansys, rather than from an operator, so I would have expected it to come completely unbranded/unmodified.

I'm not sure where expansys get their handset, but it seems they were not SIM free as we thought... I was under that impression too.

Have a scour on the net, there is info that actually tells you from that last portion what operator variant phone you have.

But again it took ages to fine, and like an idiot, i didn't bookmark it... I think it was tied in with info on language packs (01, 02, 03 etc)

Luckieb - I am an idiot !! - I got my N80 from the Carphone Warehouse (I should have known better !!) - It was unlocked and unbadged (works with any SIM).

Hopefully this won't stop me from upgrading my firmware eventually.

Does anyone know if you can get the firmware replaced? As the handset was bought SIM free and unbadged this shouldn't be a problem, should it?

From what I have seen so far the codes seem to be:

31 - UK Orange
42 - UK Voda
33 - UK O2??
?? - UK Three??
?? - UK T Mob??

just spoken to Nokia Support and a service engineer (here in Cork) as I have same problem as a number of other users in here (I have a 58.01 phone that I won directly from Nokia in a citizen photojournalism award and it says no software upgrade avaliable).

bottom line if it says no upgrade avaliable then u gotta go to a service centre for a full flash - (or possibly try totally reseting the phone - power down and reset to default settings - then it might work)

shame really - engineer says there is nothing that beats the proper flash in one of their shops !

makes u kinda wonder why they bother.

fair play to those of u that have got it done - is it better

and btw - firmware upgrade should be free in uk or ireland as long as phone is in warrantty (i.e. first year) and was bought in europe or africa :-)
