N80 firmware update gone wrong.

I was recently backing up my N80 on O2, when a new update tab appeared at the bottom of my PC Suite, so with out thinking any more about it I proceeded in clicking it, the software ( PC SUITE ) updated and informed me of a firmware update for the N80. it then switched off my phone, sat for about 15min told me it was unsuccessful try again. which I declined and now the phone will not switch on at all. Could anyone please spread some light on this. Thank you

Re: N80 firmware update gone wrong.

you should have clicked 'Yes' to retry the update. The same happened to me whilst updating my firmware and I clicked Yes and it re-tried and worked ok the second time around.

Only thing I can suggest to you is to see if it will recognise your N80 and re-try the update. Other than that, call O2 and tell them your phone has died. they will ask you to send it to them, and then they will send a refurbished n80 out to you. I did this when I had a faulty N80 and had a refurbished phone within the week. Otherwise take your N80 to a Nokia Service Centre (Carphone warehouse) and explain what happened to them, they can re-flash your firmware even while your N80 is dead.

Hope anything I have mentioned can help.

Re: N80 firmware update gone wrong.

P.S. Normally the problem you have had is due to the update being interupted i.e. battery runs out durin update or some other programme interupts the NSU. Make sure NSU is the only programme you have running whilst updating and plug your phone into its charger while updating too.

Re: N80 firmware update gone wrong.

Thank you for your help, I took it back to O2 and they will be sending it away to get flashed. It was said it be about 2 weeks before I see my phone, and crossing fingers all is well. in the future if I can muster the guts to try that again, A charger will be in place and the Nokia software will be the only software running. I was surfing the net whilst downloading the firmware. silly me I should have known better.

Re: N80 firmware update gone wrong.

I could be wrong here, but I seem to remember that the BATTERY must be charged fully and that just plugging in the charger is not enough. Maybe the charge socket is disconnected during flashing? Any experts on flashing out there to confirm or deny this?

Re: N80 firmware update gone wrong.

your battery must be full for the update BUT this doesnt mean the battery won't drain fully durin the upload of data as we all know the battery life of the N80 isn't great, to be certain this doesn't happen, I would plug your charger in as a backup precaution AND yes double, DOUBLE check the charger is switched on.

P.S. Battery life did improve on my N80 after updating to the new firmware YIPEEE!

Re: N80 firmware update gone wrong.

If i may be critical, by how much did the battery life improve by, because my whole one day usage is a bit annoying, bearing in mind all my other nokia's did at leased a week. in the nokia N80 defence the demand on my mobile phones have got quite intense over the years, but not 6 days worth. And has anyone experianced quicker load times for applications after the update. T

Re: N80 firmware update gone wrong.

Well Ihave had 3 different N80's now and the battery life has varied on each one of them. i think on average before new firmware my battery would have lasted a day like yours, but now with new firmware my battery lasts a good 5 days without use, 3 days with general use but I use my N80 for so many things throughout the day, Mp3 player, Wifi, email, calls, texts. So i get about 2 days from a full charge.

Wow!

They're pretty good numbers. I charge mine every night, then if I'm going out in the evening, I have to charge when I get home to be sure I have charge for the evening.

Having said that, I do use the radio or listen to podcasts on it quite a bit during the day.
