Hello,
i quite interested in the N79, due to its many functionalities compared to the price. But im worried about the image quality, after reading a bit here and there on the net.
My question is:
Have the image quality improved after the firmware upgrades, or are the camera still a bit disappointing?
Help would be greatly appriciated!

Camera is ok on the N79 but not that good. I find the camera better on N95 8GB and N96 than N79. If you want a camera phone then look at the Nokia N82 or Nokia N86 8MP.

Nokia N86 = Won TIPA Award best camera for mobile 2009

Hi Sahyesta
Thx for the reply. ![]()
I have taken the phones you mentioned into the pool of phones i need to examine carefully!
But, I would stille like to hear, if the firmware upgrade has improved the image quality on the N79. As i have understood it, it is not the lenc/optics, but rather the processing, which i imagine potentially could be improved by a firmware upgrade... !

new firmware should improve the n79 camera. it should reduce the noises in the pictures captured along with video recording. every nseries phone that gets a firmware update always gets the camera quality improved. so a new firmware should make it abit better. alternatively you could install the latest firmware on your n79 and see if it imprvoes anything.
but my money will be on N82 or N86 8MP. I would get the N86 8MP as the camera is good and its the latest phone in the market, better battery, bigger buttons. the n86 8mp has better firmware which is more stable than n79. also N86 8MP is cheaper than N96, N95 8GB and its got same feattures more or less like n95 8gb/n96 but main advantage on N86 is the camera and bigger battery along with software improvments which help the battery last more longer.

Just wait man!!!. You know that N79 has got the potential in it.
Just a bit of firmware will do the click. Every N series phone is not perfect right from launch. firmware upgrade makes it. you could just wait for the new firmware. or readily jump to N82 or 86 if you are in a haste.
Now if you also give a look at the prices, then go for N79 rather than N86. I dont advice N82 because it lacks certain new technologies. But pics are excellent in N82.
So overall
If you in haste and no problem with money then go for N86
not then can wait and get N79 at a lower price.!!!!
Now talking about the clarity.. i have to say N79 has got very good pictures during day time and in a well lighted area. But during night it is terrible. horrible. the round figures of the flash appears in the picures taken. The good wroking of the flash at night depends on the distance of the object of which you are taking the photo.
thats all.

I confirm that. Night shots are horrible and Nokia should deal with them real seriously within next launched firmware. Update to fw ver 20. does not improve image quality whatsoever.
Another thing that bothers are the lagging and crashes. Really annoying. I hope Nokia still needs me as a loyal customer and makes the improvements, otherwise im fooled by Nokia and its immature N79. Right now its like a prepayed test equipment.

Posting example of the gray spots on the night shots. Hope to get some feedback if this and the noise problem on night shots are issue to be solved with next firmware upgrade(s).
