Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

My N78 is good for about 2.5 metres from my receiver and then the noise over-rides the signal. I picked up a CA-75 cable which works very well in bringing the stereo output of the N78 to my receiver. Now whatever would come to my headset can go to my home sound system. It occurs to me I could be playing Tetris in a surround sound environment with the ability to synthesise 5.1 from 2.0 sources built into my receiver. I'll have to try it right away!

There is no video output, I checked. That would be cool to have the cover art for whatever mp3 is playing to show up on my TV.

Got to go! Sooners are playing for the National College Football Championship.

Ow are you sure 2.5 meter from receiver? My N78 can only transmit in 5 - 10 centimeter from the radio receiver even there is no radio station on that frequency. Hmmm I think i should take it to Nokia Care Center. Thanks for the information tzsm98

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

There is a "dead spot" at 101.1 FM in Oklahoma City. I can leave the device in the outboard pocket of my trousers and it will play very nicely over the radio in the center of my car. Admittedly this is less than 2.5 metres but certainly more than 10 cm.

In the home I've walked away from the receiver with the N78-3 device in my hand and can consistently get 2.5 metres away from the receiver before the signal is too degraded to be worth listening to. There is a steep drop off in quality of signal the last .5 metre.

This is not in any direction of travel. I have to walk backward perpendicular to the front of the receiver to get this distance. Off perpendicular performance is somewhat less. I've spent only about five minutes playing with this so I don't have detailed charts and signal strengths to give you. It would make for a fun paper. :smileywink:

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

two more bugs found, not so critical but are still present:

+ when in Tools > Utilities > Speed dial, moving from one number to the next takes more than a while to occur (i.e. a bit slow)
+ when in the Messaging Inbox, and the first message you open will display the message. now when you press the right or left arrows to go to the next message, the Inbox view is displayed briefly before the message is actually displayed. looking at subsequent messages by pressing right or left, this does not happen. However, when going back to Inbox view then selecting another message, the same scenario happens again if repeated as I have stated.

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

yet another bug:

+ when going into Notes in Office applications, and say you immediately press Exit to go back, the menu transitions go all weird as if they have turned themselves off, until you go backwards into the main menu. This is noticeable in all themes, though most noticeable in the Haze effect.

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

I have the same problem with my N78 and the C4 of my girlfriend. Her Nokia 3109 works perfect with it though. My N78 directories are not shown on the C4 display and when I want to make a voicedial, there is no 'beep' on the C4 speaker to let me know when to start saying the name of the person I want to call. It's difficult to guess when to start saying the name this way.

Next to that when using the ultimedia key to go to the Multimedia Menu, and then going to Maps Tile. Only the standard favourite locations (Unter den Linden in Berlin, Burj al-Arab in Dubai, Sydney Opera House in Australia, Broadway in New York and The Louvre Museum in France) are displayed and not the favourite locations I chose myself in te Maps application.

Last but not least: if you try to set-up an alarm for a certain weekday that will repeat every week, it will not save the alarm on the day you picked, but on today's day (f.e. you're playing with your phone on a sunday and you decide that you want to have an alarm every tuesday at 7 pm; you save the selection you just maybe and - surprise - the alarm is no on sunday's at 7 pm).

Mind you, Iva got a Dutch version of this phone (but the support forum on the Dutch website of Nokia does not work (always error page!)).

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

Ola!

I can confirm that I should be able to update my N78 (RM-235 / Hardwarecode 0545495) using FOTA to a version starting with "2" (the screen doesn't show all the info and I can't install it right now (work) to verify that it is indeed V20.149). However, I'll try later today/night to install it and fiddle around with the new version.

Funny part though is that both the European as well as the Dutch Nokia firmware upgrade checkup site are not working (instead you get an "Oooops" not-found-what-you're-looking-for reply). In the mean time, NSU still only shows 12.046 as latest firmware to (re-)install...

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

thanks for that Fernao, yes seems weird that FOTA seems to have the updates but NSU or Can I Update? page doesn't work. Maybe v20.149 isn't that official yet I am not sure, there seems to be a lot of changes than just the ones stated in the log floating around the Internet. Hopefully, either 13.052 or 20.149 will be official soon and be available through NSU.

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

V12 is completely rubish.
After firmware update from V10 to V12, my music player crashed doing the play (I havent pressed anything) and wrote that file is corupted and after that general system error have ocured. After it tryed to fix corrupted library, but it was fixing and fixing. After I rebooted the phone, the music player was useless because It was searching for new files and if i tried to refresh library, the refresh is going and going on without any files added.
Any ideas ?
I tried to format the card, but without changes.
If I remove the memory card the player refreshes the library quickly without adding any files (because there is no in phone memory). But with card is the same problems....

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

According to the help information resident on my N78-3
"The operating distance of FM transmitter is up to a maximum of 3 metres (10 feet)."

This is found in MENU|TOOLS|UTILITIES|HELP|FM TRANSMITTER
so I guess the 2.5 metres I'm getting is within design. I was concerned it was an outlier and with the next firmware update everyone would be throwing rocks at me because the FM transmitters had been powered back.

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

Hi everyone,

Yesterday evening I installed V20.149.051.1 (version date Dec-08 2008) using FOTA (at the moment the only option since NSU doesn't offer the upgrade yet) and hereby a very brief first impression;

- background light settings actually work
- truncated email-account loginname fixed
- overall impression of a faster response

Also found the page http://europe.nokia.com/A4577224 to check for firmware upgrades again and indeed, no mentioning of V20, only V12 is offered.

Good luck!

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

Good question. I'm not sure if the availability is dependent on the country (I guess it is, am I right?), but you can find out by first entering "*#0000#", and after you entered the second hash, you see a brief overview of the device manager showing your current version. You can then press the 5 directional button in the center and see the "check for updates" option. Choose that option and agree with the possible costs for downloading, confirm a connection and voilà, you get a notification and option to download and install new firmware (or not...). V20 was about 13MB to download (ie. you may consider using your home wifi network for faster download).

I would backup first, just to be sure, but in essence, you should not lose any data at all since FOTA makes use of UDP (user data preservation) which means you don't reset your phone (however, something always can go wrong).

Good luck

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

Just to inform you, there is no update available for v20.149 for North American version, yet. I tried NSU and FOTA, no good news for NAM owners. We have to keep waiting, once again!

hey tzm98
I'm just browse the internet n i found "http://www.fring.com/download/default_PC.asp" there is a VOIP software for N78 there. Well just an information.
I don't know this is allowed by mods or not. So if you find no web address in this post, the mods might be remove it already.

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

Thanks for the link. I'm hoping for the native VoIP that will allow me to use UMA with my carrier to take advantage of the uncharged minutes that are available if I connect to the carrier's service using my wireless router. This is something I do using my Nokia 6301b, an S40 device.

Still no firmware upgrade available here in the USA for the N78. There is a two page bug list discussion going on about version 20. A lot of it is good. Increased speed. Some of it is just plain weird stuff. I imagine the higher the revision number the weirder the stuff can get as folks add more software to their phones.

Re: N78 v12.046 Official Bug List Thread

You can find Fring at Nokia Download! Application on OVI PC Suite or Nokia NSeries Suite, too. I am currently using it and works great on my N78 NAM. Don´t have to worry about links.

I am waiting for NAM version firmware update. Keeping fingers crossed for a short wait!

I've just installed 20.149.151.1 FOTA European version. Unfortunately, there's still no native VOIP client in it:smileysad:
