N73 - new firmware out?

Hello!

I've seen a new firmware-version for my phone,

my Version is V 2.0628.0.0.1
i've seen V 2.0628.0.0.3

but the N73 isn't in the phone software update. When is the new firmware available? Or is the .0.0.3 no offical update?

Thx in advance for answers

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

You should ask Nokia themselves.
You'll only get responses from users here I think..

Admittedly - I have the same problem as you - but finding a solution on here is proving hard..

.0.0.3 is applied only through Nokia Service Points. By the way, N73 IS in the NSU list now...

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

It's easier to find that out if you post the LAST line of the output generated when pressing *#0000#. This last line contains a model name and variant number. If the variant number consists of 2 digits (i.e. (01), (02), (03), etc.) the firmware IS out already. If the variant number consists of four digits, with a separator after the first two (i.e. ##.##), then you will have to wait for a number of weeks. Nokia have said they're working on releasing the other variants' firmware versions soon. If your variant consists of 4 digits in the aforementioned pattern, you should pay particular attention to the first set of two digits, as that will inform you of whether the phone is branded or not. In case of a branded phone, you may have to wait even longer, as final responsibility for software updates lies with the PROVIDER/OPERATOR in this case...

Your phone is operator/provider independent, but is it localised or not? If your Model version number consists of more than 2 characters (the model version number (MVN) is displayed after the model name on the *#0000#-screen), then you cannot update! The check itself depends on the product code, but it's easier to find out if you can't or can update using the MVN. If your MVN consists of 2 characters, you can update without further ado. If your MVN consists of MORE than two characters, please post it here -- I can find out whether you can or can't update.

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

Hi, I have a Vodafone branded N73 with MVN 34.02. Can you tell me if I can update to firmware v3?

swinglow: No, if yours was a 34 model (instead of 34.02) then u could....if its only 2 digits instead of the 4, then u have a NON-LOCALIZED version which can be updated using NSU

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

Looks like you are indeed, cos Vodafone will have to approve the new firmware before it is to be spread to the customers... You could of course always try and visit a Nokia Service Centre for obtaining newer firmware that THEY might have available... I mean, I still cannot flash my N73 to V3.0368.0.0.x, but I CAN have my phone flashed to V2.0368.0.0.3, which would also solve a number of issues... Don't know whether this would be true for branded phones as well.

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

csteeler, i've looked into the whole contacting Nokia Service Point scenario you keep mentioning in your posts, and it simply does not work.

I have contacted Vodaphone phone, who don't have a clue.
I have contacted Nokia customer services, who don't have a clue and keep saying "contact a nokia service point".

I then contacted "several" yes thats several Nokia Service Points, too be told that they only have the V2.0368.0.0.3 but it STILL will have the same country code i.e 39.01 which means that you still cannot upgrade to V3.0368.0.0.x, which still means BLuetooth Problems which are not fixed with any V2 of the firmware.

So in a nutshell its a complete brick wall which ever avenue you turn too. I haven't replied on here for more than 2 weeks, and still no information on the NSU N73 link to say which country variants etc are supported. How long does it take Nokia to read customer comments on here and actually do something about them? I mean, have the entire Nokia Software Updating team gone of Xmas shopping for Sony Ericcson's or something?

P.S. I have already had a message from a Mod saying tone it down, why? I haven't said anything that pretty much every other Nokia (in particular N73) owner isn't feeling right now.

If the Nokia Updater Team were as quick to act with getting these V3 firmware out to everybody, as the Mods are to slam somebody for posting remarks that make Nokia look bad, we wouldn't be in this mess..

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

Completely agree with the previous poster.

Nokia are no more helpful with upgrades when you buy the phone direct (ie not via a phone company).

I think the NSU is a smoke screen. Their are no updates, it doesn't work, they never release updates, no matter how long you wait, or who you ask

The only way to sort your phone out is to "loose" it, and get a new one via insurance. You can then pray and hope that you get one with a newer firmware (and even if that firmware will solve your problem!).

Customer Service is NON existent, especially through that Gawd Dawn Awful "Nokia lets play with your mind, get marketing information but never help CLUB"

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

Hi

1. I dont know if what the situation is with the latest firmware, but would you rather have new firmware right now that is still very buggy or would you rather be patient and wait for them to get it right?

Admittedly the networks dragging their heals to approve the latest versions of the firmware is a real pain

2. The NSU has been around for what? 2 months? Before that the only option you had was to go to a service centre so be thankful you now have this option, give it another few months to a year they should hopefully have all firmware versions available and possibly the latest versions for all areas as soon as they are available but we shall see.

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

Hello again,

I love the idea of NSU! Being able to update the firmware without going to a service center is a BIG plus.

And yes I would rather have the latest firmware which hopefully fixes a few bugs even if it means that new ones could have been added.

grey area, i totally disagree with both of your points. With that many posts under your belt, i would have thought you would have something constructive for the customers to take positive out of, but you've failed us just like Nokia.

I don't want to wait 12 months for the "final working version" of a firmware to be released.

Take the N73, everyone knows the v3 fixes a lot of problems, it is available for some variants of the N73, but it should be available for all variants at the SAME time.

This is not an issue of waiting for the perfect firmware to fix everything on a phone, its about the gradual fixes along the way. The v3 firmware fixes the bluetooth for example, so i want that now, not wait upto 12 months for a fix to appear in a final firmware that fixes all problems.

I bought a 12 month contract, and if you expect anyone to wait upto a whole year for a firmware to be released to fix my phone your in cloud cuckoo land.

My Phone is unbranded, so it doesn't require any network invervention to ok the firmware, ONLY nokia is needed to release the v3 firmware for (xx.xx) variants, and have they done that? Have they hell, and any communication? None what so ever. Nokia's Logo should be : NOKIA - disconnecting people

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

I agree that if they have released for one generic product code they should release for all of them.. I dont know the reasoning behind it.... it is possible they found a change they could make in the space of a week or so that will improve the bluetooth but i dont know.

suppose it is a case of wait and see, have to say tho it has improved so much since it initally came out

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

Agreed sharpharp. I'm not tied to an Operator and I still have to jump through hoops. That stuff about "its your operator that is taking its time to approve it" is BULL. If that was the case then why would us unbranded people have to wait for the update! The whole reason I paid out the extra money to get a sim-free phone was so i didn't have to go through this stuff. Get the impression the problem is Nokia, not the operators.

As sharpharp says in a year, when they release the fix, I'll be on a new phone (hopefull not a NOKIA!!!!!)

Re: N73 - new firmware out?

Well I have very slowly been making some progress with 3 UK regarding this issue. My latest reply from 3 sounds a bit more positive. Take a look at my petition thread and you can follow the history of my fight for getting the firmware update.

I have just seen that I have Counsellor under my forum name. Do you get this after x amount of posts of something? I do not work for Nokia or any Network Provider.
