Hi all
I downloaded the updater but when I click on it it says " Preparing to update.
and at this point I get a green bar scanning saying Searching for a connected phone.

This is all that happens? whats up with it.
It's plug in to my computer ok so whats it doing. I left it like this at one point for half an hour..

looks i got the same problem.
the exact moment, when i choose "next" on the software updater and it should start to update the phone, pc suite shuts off and the updater doesn't find the phone. I've called the importer for my country, various services and no one knows what's going on, but they all say i'm not the only one with this problem. So?
Sum' help, please.

one operator said that pc suite is causing the problem.
that i shouldn't just update it, but completely remove it and then download the new version. well i removed it, cleaned my registry and removed all traces of nokia software ever being installed on my pc. BUT THAT STILL DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

If you want to clean your registry and remove ALL traces of Nokia software I think that you must start your computer in "Windows Safe mode". Otherwise registry cleaner is not able to remove "everything".

(To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.)

After that run Nokia registry cleaner.

Reboot your computer and install newest PCSuite and NSU software and REBOOT your comp.

Don't know why, but I don't have any problems with NSU or PCSuite...

i don't think it's the case with removing previously installed software at all. I beleive the firmware updater should work just as well with older versions of pc suite, but it doesn't.
maybe the updater is causing the problem?

Nope. I can confirm the Updater itself is fine, as I just updated someone's N73 with it. His product code was 0529026. Everything worked just fine on my PC, and should also work fine on yours. Just ensure that you have Nokia PC Suite 6.82 installed. If you do have that version and things are still acting odd, please follow these steps cautiously:

1. COMPLETELY remove Nokia PC Suite from your computer, via Control panel. Beware to remove ALL related software as well.
2. Go to the Nokia site and download the Nokia PC Suite Registry Cleaner
3. Start NPCSRC and choos for the option "Cleaning my computer" when asked for a problem selection. Choosing this option will chuck ALL Nokia-related keys, values and classes out of the registry, cleanly erase ALL related files and restore any other affected files to their original state.
4. Restart the PC, even if not asked to do so! This is VERY important
5. if you haven't already done so, or if you removed the download, download Nokia PC Suite
6. Install Nokia PC Suite again
7. choose Get Connected from the main window of Nokia PC Suite, and opt for the USB Cable connection. Follow on-screen instructions.
8. Go to Help and select "About Nokia PC Suite". Verify whether Nokia Connectivity Suite and/or Nokia Connectivity Cable Drivers are installed. Usually this is the case when you can successfully back-up your phone's contents. Use caution when verifying via Info, as it may happen that one of those components is listed as not being installed. Please confirm using Backup/restore.
9. If Backup/restore fails to complete, this might be because of the phone's SMSync app being too old. (Bachup/Restore will report: This phone doesn't have Messaging Support installed....") If this happens, choose "Reinstall PC Suite Support on the Phone" from "Help". and after that try again. Now things should work in Backup/Restore.
10. (optional) Carry out a PC Synchronisation if you are using this feature. it is important that the phone be synchronised before updating.
11. Try using NSU again.

I hope you'll be all right after carrying out these steps. They worked fine for me.

So far I have uninstaled and used add/remove to take off all my Pc Suite.
I have looked at the pc suite on the web sight and I am sure it's the same as the one that came with the phone.
When I come to put it all back on again should I used my disk or download it all from the websight?

But the updater is doing the same as it did before so that's it i'm not bottered anymore.

you should download the new version from the web not just reinstall it from the cd. i'll try it again tomorow, step by step, following csteelooper's instructions, but i don't think that'll solve the problem.
we'll see. i'll give you my report

It would be best in this case to use the website version, as I am almost sure that it's a bit newer (website contains 6.82, most CDs contain up to 6.81). Before installing Nokia PC suite again, however, note that I advised you to first use the Nokia PC Suite Registry Cleaner. This ensures that virtually EVERYTHING is wiped off your computer (at least everything to do with Nokia PC Suite) before you reinstall. Failing to do so might cause the problems you had to persist even though you reinstall.

If you still experience problems AFTER using Nokia PC Suite Registry Cleaner and reinstalling Nokia PC Suite, please feel free to post here again; I'll try and solve your problems.

cleaned it all off download the suite from web etc etc still doing the same thing HANGING in the same place.

Is there any other software installed on your system that might be using the phone in any way, either or not by cable? If there's any software using your phone via bluetooth, then you'll not be able to use NSU at that time. You HAVE to disable bluetooth on your phone.
Furthermore, you might want to disable firewall AND antivirus software temporarily, as these products also cause a lot of problems when using NSU... I feel sorry for you suffering from these problems; wish I could do something for you...

Hi,
I seem to be having similar problems do I need to follow the advice and download from the Nokia site. All I wanted to do was download photo's. Installed pc suite connect phone via usb and asked the pc to get photo's (as detail in handbook) but the phone would not connect and appear in pick list left it trying to connect for ages but no joy. Any advise any one?

Draw22 the suite is fine for photos, texts. music everything. It's just the Updater that is causeing the problems.
