Re: N73 No software updates available !!

I did this- changed the product code, ran NSU, updated, all fine until I went to restore my phone using PC Suite- when it rebooted i got 'Phone startup failed, contact retailer'
So, no idea what has gone on, but I reckon I have invalidated my warranty, dont think its worth taking back to Vodafone cos they will find out what I have done!

Re: N73 No software updates available !!

FINALLY... Someone HAS learnt it the HARD WAY... I almost feel like cheering, although that would be all to harsh... You SHOULDN'T HAVE CHANGED your product code... I have been telling it hundreds of times throughout this site. Still, you did do this... NOPE, you do NOT have any warranty... You'll probably have to pay a good £200,- to have it replaced/repaired...

See THIS *HUGE* post of mine on the adverse effects of Product Code COUNTERFEITING (That is what it is, as you well know):

Please DO remind that Changing the PRODUCT CODE VOIDS THE WARRANTY. Why in HEAVEN'S name does everyone suggest changing the product code? It's about time somebody leart it the hard way! These different variants have (chances of) slightly different hardware being used in them. This difference can be as little as a different ROM-address being accessed for the Boot Loader Block to be invoked upon powering on the phone. As such, updating the phone with software that wasn't officially meant for it, can lead to catastrophic situations. The worst result would be being unable to power on the phone because the update instructs the phone to access the BLB at a different address. If this happens, the phone won't turn on at all, and you could start using it as a Frisbee. Please... STOP encouraging everyone to change their product codes... It's for your OWN goods. Not MINE, Not NOKIA, not YOUR PROVIDERS... Nope... Just your OWN... When in the name of Merlin will you finally realise this??? Admittedly, changing the product code would be the ownly way for CONSUMERS to remove branding, but this is at a price. First of all, you LOOSE your WARRANTY if anything goes wrong, no matter HOW small the adverse effect might be. Second of all, you might fail to perform future updates. AND THIRD of ALL: Nokia WILL be able to see changes made to product codes even if you reset them...
Really people... you could have avoided this branded software upon purchasing this phone. But the only legitimate (and wise) thing to do now is to serve your contracts to the end and to have the branding legally removed by an NSP. Some of them will even do so BEFORE contracts have ended, if you pay them. Non-branded phones come at a higher display price than their branded colleagues. and this isn't for nothing...
really, this agitates me to the bone... Anyone posting things like this here will above all risk banning...

I do not want to be a spoilsport or anything. I HAVE to emphasise that I am NOT affiliated to Nokia in ANY WAY, and that I myself will also, at times, do things that are perhaps arguable. But I feel I HAVE to say that ANYTHING involving someone changing their product code is not only illegal (I wouldn't even care if that WERE the only thing about it), but IRRESPONSIBLE as well... The Nemesis Software Suite itself is NOT illegal; it is in fact used for MANY purposes and using MANY different dongles and virtual devices. But the purpose of Changing the product code SHOULD NOT be one of them... It's for your OWN goods... If you do wish to ignore my message on this, feel free to do so. Just DON'T come and post here about any adverse effects you might experience...
One final thing I wish to point out is that if people continue to change their product codes, Nokia might put an end to NSU... Which is something NONE of us would want to happen. If the service is ABUSED (from Nokia's point of view this is ABUSE, remember that), Nokia reserves the right to halt or even definitively discontinue the service...

Please be aware that sightings of your psot(s) on this subject (changing product codes) by nokia staaf might also lead to civil and/or criminal prosecution!

Re: N73 No software updates available !!

I can understand where you are coming from, but please can you cheer for me now because I have got it working again using the old *3 green trick, everything seems to be fine, and I can now actually use it with my GPS without the damn bluetooth connection dropping all the time, which is why I took drastic measures, its Nokias fault for sending out a top end phone with loads of bugs!!
If I wanted to change my product code back to original as printed under battery would that be possible..

Re: N73 No software updates available !!

I totally agree about Nokia - as do most of the people that support this forum.

If they built cars most of us would be dead and they would be shutdown.

Re: N73 No software updates available !!

I'd be mor eimpressd with your reply if you or Nokia people responsible also gave some information about the N73 update and what the customers of Nokia can expect in terms of availability and timescales. The fact that so many people can't update or are given no information when they will be able to is a shocking treatment of customers. Is it really too much trouble to communicate this to us?

I agree but if Nokia looked at these forums and supported their customers, not only would they have products that work but also customers who would stay with them.. They are missing one heck of an opportunity!

Re: N73 No software updates available !!

Is there actually a new firmware upgrade available. if not do you want them to rush it. if they do there will still be issue and who will be the first people affected. I am sure once it is ready it will be made available

Re: N73 No software updates available !!

It certainly would... But please keep in mind that, should the original software for your product code have a lower version number, you would never be able to get the original software on your phone. To take things a little further, you could, by now, have excluded yourself from obtaining any future updates at all. But in order not to lose your warranty I think it should be best to revert to the original product code. I haven't heard of any adverse effects just from reverting. But keep in mind that I don't hear ALL about it; I am NOT affiliated with Nokia.

DISCLAIMER: I shall not be liable for any damage caused by executing any instructions contained in this post -- I decline responsibility for ANY actions involving a product code change! I still think that it should NOT be changed!

Re: N73 No software updates available !!

Nokia Software Updater for N93 and N73 We are very sorry that updates for the N93 are still not available. We had hoped to resolve the technical problems this week, but unfortunately it is taking longer than planned. The delay is not related to N73. We are also sorry that some of you are not able to update the N73. Not all country specific or operator variants are available at the moment, but this is our #1 priority. We do read all posts, and we do take all comments and suggestions seriously - thank you for your feedback. Regards The Nokia Software Updater team

I take back what I said about Nokia missing an opportunity - it is good to know they are seriously reading our comments. I look forward to using my bluetooth hands free car kit outside my drive.  Nokia THANKS for letting us know where you are at....

Well, wht would you think... It's just that Nokia staff aren't in a position to comment on anything said here, as orinoco has pointed out a number of times...
