Recently I updated my N73 to the latest EURO1 firmware 4.0726.2.0.1. I was very impressed with this firmware but yesterday found a major bug in the way the phone handles the calling number during an incoming call. One of my friend's number is 9810XXXXXX. His brother got a new number 9910XXXXXX with 'XXXXXX' being same for both of them. Now when his brother called me for the first time from his new number my mobile showed me my friend's name instead of showing the number which is not stored in my contacts. The phone clearly failed to differentiate between '98' & '99'.
After this I did following test on my phone from my home landline:
My home number is stored in my contacts as +91120YYYYYYY under the name HOME. '120' is the area code and YYYYYYY is the number.
*If I change any digit in the number (YYYYYYY) and call from the landline, my phone shows me the number (Unknown Contact). This was the expected result.
*If I change the Area code (120) to any other number and then call, my phone still shows the incoming call as coming from HOME. The is clearly a bug.
*Now I simply removed the country code(+91) & area code(120) from the number and stored it as YYYYYYY only. Again I called from the landline and to my surprise the mobile still shows the incoming call as HOME. This is a major bug.
My conclusion is that the mobile is only trying to match the last 7-8 digits when searching the contact name.
Could anyone else please try these easy steps and confirm this bug? If confirmed this bug leads to a major identity problem and Nokia needs to be made aware of it immediately

I think you'll find this is a common problem and has been the case since the earliest mobile phones. From what I understand, the phone only looks at the last x amount of digits anyway.

Where 'x' is = 7.
The facts expressed in my posts belong to everybody, the opinions belong to me. The distinction is yours to draw.

I am using 3.0704.1.01, and was told in Carphone Warehouse a more up-to-date firmware available. However after entering my version 0546349, it says I am using teh most recent and am up-to-date version.
Can I use a later version, wil this cause any problems if not correlating with Nokia's database?
Couple of further questions, related:
1. Incoming texts are only being identified by telephone not by name, I have a large database of contacts synchronised onto the phone from Outlook. Is there any way of forcing this or is there a setting somewherer in the phone I haven't managed to find yet, it is such a maze of a menu and sub-menu etc?
2. Can I order what icons I am showing on my desktop, tired of looking?
Any help really appreciated
