Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

After I updated successful (message was displayed by software updater) my phone, it makes a restart.

And asked for the "Lock Code". I never used the lock code function and I never changed it before.

The default Lock Code "12345" mentioned within the documentation is not working.

Re-installation of the firmware is not working as I am unable to reinstall "PC Suite Support" due to the fact that I am not able to confirm the installation on my phone. I went to the Nokia shop and they told me they have to sent the cell phone in for repair and this can takes up to four weeks. This is totally unacceptable. Until today I was I fan of Nokia phones but this has changed dramatically.

Really strange, and I agree that's unacceptable. I've been told by Nokia representatives that the Security Code feature is a one-way ticket; if you leave it untouched, it'll never bother you other than when you use the phone locking feature. If you do e.g. change it, the request is added to startup and possibly to Offline Mode (mileage WILL vary..). The ONLY way to reset the feature is to give the phone to the repair shop where they'll completely wipe out the OS and reinstall it.

...being without your business phone for four weeks is always a bit.. Disorienting. Just don't let them give you a 3510i for a replacement for the time being, like they gave me. The contrast was stark to say the least. LOL

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

I have the same problem after upgrading the firmware... but I removed the battery and redo it again with the defaul 12345... and it fails... but when I tried the one I changed to previously, it works... so the lock code may not be changed during the firmware upgrade?

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

But as I mentioned before, I never used this lock code feature before. Means it should be still the default code "12345". In the meantime the network provider support could solve my issue in one working day. As there is again a update (210) available I am afraid to download it.

[ Edited ]

I just encountered the same problem, tonight I did a Firmware upgrade (latest) , and the phone asked me for the "lock code" after booting.

I NEVER used it (the lock code), so I am stuck. Tried to redo the firmware and did NOT help. Also tried the 12345 code, no way!!

It has to be a solution for this... huh.. I hope that some friends from my mobile operator will help me with that (at least to ask NOKIA service for a solution).

I am really **bleep** off

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

Hi

I also experienced the same problem. Phone was working perfectly prior to Firmware Update.

I had never used or changed the lock code. Initially I thought everything was fine because the

Firmware Update was reported to have been a success.

I then went through the process of selecting language (English) and setting date and time.

However, after doing all this I was then asked for a Lock Code.

I was a little bemused but tried the default '12345'. This did not work.

I tried all the other usual defaults; '0000', '1111', '1234' etc, still no joy.

After a little swearing I decided to ring the Nokia help line. After explaining the problem I was advised to go to my nearest Care Centre. I was also told that if the cause of my problem was as a result of the 'faulty' firmware update then they should do it free of charge.

Off to the Care Centre then (30 mile round trip)!!!! They rigged it up to their 'kit' and confirmed that

the Lock Code had not been changed and was still set to '12345'. They could not access the phone

either. They now have my phone and are going to try and sort it and if they cannot sort it will be

sending off to Nokia. This should then be sorted under warranty (although I would argue the cause

of the problem is a glitch in the Firmware Update and not a fault with the phone).

Let's hope that when I get the phone back it will all be hunky dory!!!

It's also worth noting that even though I could not access the phone directly by using its own keys

I could use all the functions when rigged up to my computer through Nokia PC Suite. I could access

all contacts, messages, calendar etc. I was also able to send and receive SMS. If the phone was

locked then surely I shouldn't have been able to do this????

Hope the above sheds some light on your problem. Just be sure that you are not fobbed off by

either the help line or the 'techies' in the shop. At the end of the day if you have not messed abou

with the lock code before the firmware update you should be able to get it sorted free of charge if

the phone is still under warranty. GOOD LUCK!!!! :manvery-happy:

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

WHY DOESN'T PEOPLE HAVE AN ANSWER FROM NOKIA STAFF OVER HERE???

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, I THINK IT IS VERY UNFAIR THAT NOKIA COMPANY DOESN'T GIVE US A SOLUTION TO OUR PROBLEM IN THIS FORUM.

IS THIS LEGAL THAT THEY LOCK YOUR PHONE WHEN YOU UPDATE THE SOFTWARE???

THIS IS INCREDIBLE, PLEASE GIVE US A SOLUTION

Unfortunately, the moderator is only taking care of suspicious solutions which could be argued for security reasons. Official NOKIA technicians are not looking at this forum. This is suposed to be a member to member help forum.

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

We remove references to any procedures that may invalidate the warranty of the device, because even though advice on this forum is given by private individuals, it is still given through the medium of an official Nokia service, so Nokia has a responsability to protect the interests of Nokia users who visit here.

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

ok, I understand, but the solution (which was removed) has nothing to do with the warranty and was not in any way accessing the system files or was not using any hacking routines.

I will post again the solution, and if you think that is "problematic" for security reasons, please... remove it again.

The solution is:

when it asks for the LOCK CODE,

press and hold the gray button (near the shift button) to access/enable the number mode;

press 112 (emergency number) and then the green dial button/key.

Any other different method to dial 112 will not work.

In this way the phone is again in "normal" mode

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

the problem is temporarly solved with the solution of Melhijat, however I cannot set a new LockCode. To unlock I have always to do the same procedure. Is there a solution to set a new LockCode and be back to normal?

looking forward to read the solution.

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

Hi everybody,

funny enough, the same thing happened to me yesterday after I updated the Firmware of my E71 via Nokia Software Updater. After spending hours I had the idea to update again via Nokia OVI Suite. And now the funny thing about this: The update file in Nokia Software Updater is about 107 MB in Nokia OVI Suite 102 MB.

After the update my phone restarted, I entered the default lock code and .... IT WORKS.

If you are facing similar problems, try it that way.

It can't get worse anyhow.

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

Hi,

I have the exact same problem - but how do you get the phone connected to Ovi when you cannot enter the secirity code?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Lock Code request after firmware update on E71

The solution is: when it asks for the LOCK CODE, press and hold the gray button (near the shift button) to access/enable the number mode; press 112 (emergency number) and then the green dial button/key. Any other different method to dial 112 will not work. In this way the phone is again in "normal" mode.

This is only a temp fix and it will ask for the lock code each time you power up, the best thing to do once your phone is operational using this trick is to then re-install the firmware update using the OVI suite instead of the nokia suite once done all will be fixed :-) remember to backup first

Have fun
