I beg to differ. I have a UK vodafone branded N73 and am unable to update using the NSU. Phone details are: V2.0628.0.0.1 10-07-2006 RM-133 Nokia N73(34.02) The product code on the label is: 0541044 I'm puzzled that despite Nokia releasing teh UK version, I am still unable to update. Can anyone help and perhaps let me know when I might be able to. The getting stuck in off-line mode is very frustrating as is not always being able to connect up to my car kit. I won't mention the tomtom issues.....

Further update folks

I have tried again today. All now working and on the latest version.

Looks like all the UK versions (i'm on Vodafone) are now done. I'm off to test Tom Tom.

Torick,

We may find that the 3UK N73 X-series firmware update scheduled for around the 22nd December fixes the main problems with the N73. That is if Nokia have included the fixes in this release.

Apparently 3UK and other networks are not obliged to approve future firmware updates by phone manufacturers. It seems a bit stupid when there are problems with the operation of the phone. I did contact OFCOM about this but it just becomes a stat on their system as they do not look into individual cases.

Anyway we can only hope that the X-series firmware for the N73 will solve our problems.

I'm getting sick of posts like yours, containing info in the extent that tells people that "Owning a Nokia is just too much trouble"... Do you REALLY think that this stuff, that we're all experiencing, is a trade mark to Nokia Only??? Gotta tell you summat, dude: you'd be well out of it... SE experience the same problem on their localised versions. And I'm not even talking about BenQ Siemens, because those phone's aren't worth the effort of even beginning to write about. I wonder, sincerely, when people will finally cut out gazing through pink glasses about other brands. I HAVE owned the so widely praised SE phones, and I was hardly ever able to update them when that was needed, purely because of a localisation (well, in this case, maybe I should say Branding). Eventually I had to go to an SESP (travelling 150+km to and fro) to have the branding OFFICIALLY removed, so that they could flash the firmware. A friend of mine had the same issues with a localised phone of the same model, in this case localised for the French market; the only problem for him was that he couldn't just head to an SESP to have this localisation removed.
And just on a final note: even without NSU, it is WAY easier to find a Nokia Service Point near you than it is to find an SESP in the same area (this is true at least for the Continent). Luckily, since the Walkman phones came out, there are only two unbranded versions available for Europe, i.e. one in Europe + UK and one in France, to comply with French legislation.
The only thing I'm on about here, is that it is pretty stupid, if not dumb, to think that Nokia is the only brand that experiences trouble like we're discussing here... Just hope to have cleared the issue now... I DO HOPE that Nokia will soon release the 57.02 (0539938)-version of the Firmware, so that I can finally step off the Initial Release version I'm still using, but PLEASE know that Nokia is NOT the ONLY troubled brand... Every product has its troubles, and it would be foolish to think that these will all be just of the same brand. To further on this, it's the same with Laptops. Toshiba and HP, and Dell all make very good quality laptops in general. And with NO EXCEPTION whatsoever, you'll always hear the owner of one brand complaining mostly about their product. Simply because they're not aware that others might well be experiencing the same issues.
I'm not prohibiting anybody to complain (as that would also be stupid to even try), but I would like to stress that other brands DO have the same problems as Nokia when it comes to releasing new software!

Re: Letter to watchdog about N73... Put yours here

csteelooper - relax! My gosh, I've been reading this forum for a while now, and every time someone makes a statement such as "Owning a Nokia is just too much trouble", or anything that is of a direct negative statement towards Nokia (which is of their personal opinion, here you come with a LONG response. No one is saying that OTHER phone brands don't have their problems, but this IS a NOKIA forum in which tmboyz is posting his/her opinion, whether it be a positive or negative. Just relax! We don't need to read your extremely LONG response if it's not going to be of any help (in which I honestly don't bother reading your postings anymore).

Re: Letter to watchdog about N73... Put yours here

I took my N73 back after a few days, and cancelled my contract (went back to my 6230i). I have a factory fit bluetooth handsfree in my peugeot, and all I could do was receive a call, no other functionallity worked, ie scrolling contact list, using the contacts list for incoming calls etc, battery and signal strength inidicators were also not working.

I am now seeing on here that new firmware is around...does anyone know whether this cures the problems I have mentioned ?

Thanks

Marc

Re: Letter to watchdog about N73... Put yours here

Do what suits your wishes... It's just bothering me that people are simply bashing Nokia sometimes instead of trying to look for a solution themselves. Excuse me if you're here only for a few months, and if this (my postings) have influenced your opinion about this board in general. Never meant to do such things. Just know that I DO post things other than TM BOY-responses, as you refer to them. It annoys me to see people who have owned Siemens (which is the worst in this next to some Nokia Models) phones, acting so enormously angry about Nokia whereas they know that their other brand is performing at the same levels or even below that.

I have to say that I don't really care whether you or anyone else not agreeing with one of my postings in this topic doesn't read *any* of my postings any more. There are LOADS of users here who don't even bother reading these TOPICS (as I shouldn't have done, is what I keep telling myself)... They come here with GENUINE problems and ask for GENUINE solutions. And, believe it or not, many of those come off me as well. So, if you, or anyone else for that matter, is not to read my posts, I don't care.
By the way, you could have directed this message to me in person instead of to the whole board, by using the PM feature. Ever heard of that yet? It is considered a bit friendlier than to just go and bash me publicly...

This sorts it for me. Hope it does for you as well. I just hope I didn't influence your opinion about the board in general, because I didn't mean to!

Don't try to be insulting or patronising, Because you're not. Yeah, I do know what that means... and for that matter, you should have done EXACTLY the same thing to that rude response you gave, instead of publicy bashing him. So, your a hypocrit. I don't care what you think and I am glad there's people like you out there to make fun of.

I am done with this forum. :smileyhappy:
