Help! Problems with E71-1 (01) 300.21.012

Help! Help! Heellllllllllppp!

I've recently upgraded to firmware 300.21.012 on my E71-1 (01) and its as if someone just didnt bother to test basic things when releasing the software! Problems are:

1. Phone boot up: Just hangs at the stage when I enter my phone lock code. I finally figured out that I should remove my memory card. As soon as I did, the phone magically booted! When I disable the phone-lock at bootup request, the phone takes about 3mins at the homescreen (doing something) for me to be able to start using it! I've checked my memory card...its not corrupted!

2. SMS notification: For some random reason, every time I get a new SMS, the little envelope with the number showing next to it never appears anymore! I simply get the little monochromatic envelope showing on the top right corner of the screen telling me that a new SMS has arrived! And yes, Message Notification is enabled in the HomeScreen menu. EXTREMELY annoying now! I have to go through the messaging app to get to my new SMS!

Whyyyy??? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy god WHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?

p.s. I did do a backup and restore of my phone contents before and after firmware update respectively. And for the memory card, I didn't include it in the backup, and once the fir, ware was updated, I simply put the old memory card back into the slot (with the original contents)

Do this... 1.Backup your contacts, messages, notes, Calender and bookmarks using PC Suite backup utility. Don't backup anything like settings or user files etc. Now backup images, videos and music files manually using Windows Explorer. 2. Now format your memory card and switch off your mobile. Now press and hold this 3 button "green call key, * and 3" together and switch on your mobile. Press and hold down that three key till you see country insertion dialogue. 3. Now reboot your PC and connect your mobile with PC and wait for a minute. Now run PC Suite and click on help -> Reinstall PC Suite support. In a few second you will see an installation message in your mobile. Install all and wait for a minute then restart your mobile and restore everything which you had backup before. This will solve all your problem.

Re: Help! Problems with E71-1 (01) 300.21.012

Seriously???

So this means I can't just use my old memory card in my newly updated phone as is! I have to format it everytime I update my firmware, right? And the 3 button bootup means that I also have to format my C: everytime I update the firmware. Surely when I update the firmware, C: gets formatted automatically........?

Also, with the non-backing up of my settings, and the 3 button bootup, I will lose all my SIP, Wifi, and other configuration settings, right ( I have loads!) ?

Thanks for your post. I would however be grateful if you could tell me the consequences and reasons for each of the above actions you reccommended above.

Thanks again,

cheers

Your old settings are not match with newer firmware so you have to do hard format procedure and reset your mobile once again as per new firmware required. Many users complaining about this type of problem and so I hope that Nokia will surely do something so old settings match with new firmware. But right now, if you want to make your mobile ok then do my given procedure.

You have done all the things which can solve all the problems but you told that it is still not solve then dear now you have to wait till Nokia release new firmware upgrade which solve this firmware bug. Don't blame on me because nobody can solve firmware bug. We don't know that problem is causing due to upgrade error or firmware bug. End....

Upgrading to V300.21.012 is indeed a frustrating event.

After updating the firmware and restoring the phone and mem-card and followoing exactly all the Nokia-advise, none of my applics have a icon in the app-screen.

I needed to restore all the apps.

Happely enough though , all the settings and contents in these applications, were retained.

Why are these essential things not tested thorougly before release. Just crazy !
