hi,

after being prompted by my phone, i have upgraded the firmware to v50.0.005 from v40.something.

i let it get on with it and when it finished the screen is massively playing up!

the bottom half just shows white noise and is completely unresponsive to touch, the top half is shifted to the right slightly with a large diagonal block constantly sliding across it! the phone appears to be working as normal underneath the screen, it still accepts calls and texts.

I have done a hard reset that has successfully reset the phone but the screen problem still persists.

Ive attached a picture to hopefully show the problem.

the phone was working perfectly before the update. can anyone help??

Download latest version of OVI Suite from..

http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite

Install on your PC..

Connect your phone to PC using the USB cable in PC Suite Mode..

Launch the OVI Suite on your PC and goto Tools.. Software update.. After some time it will inform that the phone already has the latest version.. do you want to re-install? Say.. 'Yes'..

Reinstalling firmware is pointless, psycomania had pointed out.

So i suggest you to perform a Hard reset.

Turn off your phone and follow these steps

Press and hold Green key (call key) + Red key (end key) + Camera key while turning your phone on. Release those three keys when phone ask your country.

Please backup your data first.

DON'T BACKUP SETTINGS, SETTINGS MAY CONTAIN ERRORS

My 5800 screen looks exactly the same having updated to v50 last night. I spent hours reinstalling it via Nokia Ovi Suite but didn't help. Have you had any joy resolving it?

I suggest, you try hard reset

• If that will not help and you still have warranty, take it to company you bought your phone from or to "Nokia customer care".
• If you don't have warranty, you can take it to a paid repair service or search internet for how to re-flash a "dead" phone, but there is no warranty, that messing with your phone on your own won't result a real "dead" phone, that won't even turn on...

i have already tried a hard reset. it didnt work. screen behaves exactly the same.

will try connecting it to pc and reinstalling firmware.

phone is out of warranty but i refuse to pay for someone to repair the phone. its not my fault this happened! the phone was working perfectly before the update and the screen started to perform wierdly like this about halfway through the update.

sorry to hear others are having the same problem but its reassuring (in a way) at the same time that im not the only one!

reinstalling the firmware hasnt worked either. screen is still the same.

anyone got any other suggestions? i find it crazy that you can't simply do a complete refresh to how it came out of the box when i bought it with the original firmware!

I completely agree with you. Hence I have started a thread asking for the reason why this is happenning to so many users. Now waiting for the experts to answer. atleast we will know if we are doing something wrong...

BTW did you get the screen replaced at any time in the past? or.. did it yourself ??

just read that link you posted. yes i did replace the screen when it cracked!

so that seems to be the root of it at least. but why is the new v50 firmware not allowing it? is it petulance on nokias behalf simply because the screen wasnt replaced by them?

and apparently downgrading back to v40 is impossible?

and Downgrading the firmware is not possible.. atleast at the user end... May be possible at Nokia Care..

Just to add confirmation . .  yes I also replaced my screen!! Do people think it's because Nokia didn't change it themselves or is it possible to get proper 'Nokia' screens off ebay that would work ok with the firmware upgrade?

When did you buy this phone?? Couple of yrs before the screen clashes due to temperature problem!.. This was resolved quite recently!!!.. That grey appearance indicates the damage on the LCD due to AC or some cold ambiance. So, its better if you go for a replacement rather than trying to resolve this!!
