Bugs in Nokia 5800 firmware V30, explained.

jimmy18joshi, warren_g, perlik, fadglee,

i  agree with you. letting the nokia guys do the upgrading for you is the only way to go. if something happens  during the downloading, its gonna be them who's to blame. not that i want them to be the fallguys and all that but its their job to make our phones in tiptop shape.

anways, i just went to my local nokia care center and asked what's causing the crashes of the seemingly great software version. they told  told me one of the causes are the previously downloaded applications we did on our phones. music, games et al. virus is mainly the cause. so they say.

their advice is this: make  sure that the apllications we download are trusted. i know. how are we to know if those apps, music downloads are really to be trusted, right? they told me that we should take care. that's it. the majority of the 5800xm users who're having problems on their phones should bring their units to nokia pronto so that problems should be rectified at the least possible time.

motherboards in most cases are to be replaced with new ones. hard reset, they say, wouldn't work depending on the gravity of the problem. let the nokia gods sort the problem out. its safer that way.

peace out.

Re: Found any Bugs in Nokia 5800 firmware V30 yet ?

I've updated to v30.0.011 for quite some time now... bugs i've found:

- Graphical glitches, a bit everywhere, when rotating sometimes screen flickers a few times (Theme animation seems to increase the chances)

- When typing text on landscape QWERTY sometimes screen shutsdown (and doesn't come back), same happens when rotating screen, lock-unlock seems to solve the problem.

- Web browser might be faster, but i think there is some sort of memory leek/garbage collect problem, as it crashes without a notice.

- the HUE PROBLEM from v20 and earlier versions is BACK! Now it has a all kinds of hues and/or reduced contrast!

If you had stuff installed from V21 .... uninstall it before updating... specially if you have stuff like PIPS, QT, JRE 2.0, PyS60 installed ... when i updated something went wrong (update process was smoth as far as i can tell) and every time i booted the phone a background application started and took all CPU power ... this resulted in 6h battery, slow interface, overheating... to solve it i hard reseted... I really hope my phone didn't got damaged from the overheat.

Well.. it didn't melted, but is kinda scary that charged the phone before went to bed and when woke up phone was off, with battery depleted and was really hot, i think nokia bateries are quite safe considering the lithium dangers...

5800xm on a blender ... will happen sooner than expected.... v51 is a failure as an update .... v52 just postponed its fate....

Re: Found any Bugs in Nokia 5800 firmware V30 yet ?

BUG: Downloaded videos in Video Centre are saved without file extensions and it appears that they are saved with the title as the file name instead of the original file name for the videos.

For example, the video feed from the economist works and you can download videos.  If you then close video center and reopen it you will see no videos in the downloaded section. However, if you look with the file manager, the downloaded videos are there but they do not have a file extension.

The all gray thing? yes ... is like the hue problem... it was quite rare in v21 but it's back in v30 ... also the sensor gets stuck or with hi sensitivity... when stuck the lock-unlock seems to solve it ... same goes with hue issues and gray issues... on my case hue seems to correct itself after a few seconds...

Re: Found any Bugs in Nokia 5800 firmware V30 yet ?

My v30 firmware bugs list.

1. Most important, after upgrade to v30, phone has started to miss alarms. The alarms just never happens. Only after you wake up and unlock the phone, then the alarm sounds. Why will I set an alarm if I have to wake up myself, then wake up the phone for it to give the alarm? :smileyvery-happy:This never used to happen with previous firmwares. After hard reset, alarms seems to work fine. Just waiting for the day it misses again coz I still dont trust it much.

2. Phone seems to be unstable at times with random app crashes. Seems they made v30 in a hurry or something. I NEVER had any problems with previous v21, though v11 had minor ones. Waiting for next firmware (working one pliz!).

3. My fones locks with lock code after 2 minutes. Sometimes when a call comes, I cant press the recieve button on screen coz phone remains in locked status even though its ringing. I have to manually use the unlock slider, then press receieve button to successfuly recieve call. Again this never happened with previous firmwares. V30 has spoiled my phone for the first time (since I never had these problems before).

Anyone with similar observations after v30?

Re: Found any Bugs in Nokia 5800 firmware V30 yet ?

Well I havent updated anything yet as I havent found a list on what the updates do on the 5800 so it seems fairly pointless, but heres my problems:

Rotation can sometimes be a little so and so, but as with all auto rotations I have had, their never perfect

When on the internet via wifi and I paste some writing it causes my internet to close down

The internet somes closes itself down when I click on a link randomly (the link will work one day, then one minute later cause a close down)

I turned my phone on, put in my pin and all there was, was a white screen and I spent 20 minutes turning it on and off before it worked.

And finally, goddam video wont work, I cant put any on. Which Is apparantly fixable, but I am yet to fix it.

But I love this phone, compared to any of my other phones its amazing. Very little bugs, the bugs arn't major, and occur rarely.

Sony erricsons always crashed and turned off and on for me, which was a walkmen problem. I had a nokia n95 which was amazing when it worked, but its was poorly built and fell apart, and I have an n70 which I always keep because thats an amazing phone.  2GB of memory, not wifi cababil but worked like a beut. Never failed, has been soaked, dropped so many times and still works like it came out of the box. It true credit to nokia. Maybe when they iron out the 5800 bugs it will be like a n70 apart from the 5800's screen is very tempormental to damage.

So any of the bugs I mention been mentioned before? Is there a fix for any of them?

Regards,

Jacob

Version 40 bugs

[ Edited ]

Here is 2 that I have noticed maybe bugs maybe not but definately noticed after v40 update.

ALARM SETTING (and keypad is locked)

Alarm activates and the alarm bars sweep left and right giving the options "Stop" on the left and "Snooze" on the right tapping the options on screen does nothing and the only way to activate the snooze option is to physically press the red button.
However, I cannot find any way pressing the green button to get the alarm to Stop !

RADIO

Now my earphones / lead might be damaged but it was ok before the update but here goes.

Insert the 3.5 headphones etc and choose "headphones" from the options. The radio should then start playing the last station listened to but now nothing.

Choose options and before the update there was a choice of "activate loud speaker" so that the radio would play through the phones external speaker but that option doesn't appear on the list anymore.

On this matter I might concede that my lead is damaged but the lead is where I leave it after using the radio.
